Clearly, there is no good place to go to a nice dinner in Boca during March. Know everyplace is going to be packed and the concern with the food is at best minimal.

But decided to roll the dice this evening at Max’s, a place we frequented in the 90’s. The evening started off well our server was there as we reviewed the menu and bought our drinks quickly. All downhill from here.

The appetizer cheese and spinach dip was adequate at best. My wife’s meatloaf was a shadow of what we remember years ago, nothing special.

My ribeye, which was served sliced, and therefore should have been apparent to the chef, it was full of gristle, every slice had more and more gristle. On top of that it was at best rare, if not raw. Ordered medium rare. No need to cut into it; a good restaurant would never have served it.
Both baked potato’s were cool to cold in the middle.

On to desert, try the key lime pie they said. I did and even though they are pre sliced and in a fridge it took over 10 miniutes to serve. And the place was emptied out as we were tale end of the first shift.

To cap it off on the inside, a bus boy was trying to over overload a tray dropped a full glass of something on to the floor dousing me with most of the contents. Barely a sorry,
No manager came

Finally the cherry on top, $20 to valet and it took over 30 minutes to get my car. You had to valet. When I mentioned to the valet about the time he offered this advice… fine, don’t come back! Sage advice, young man I never will and I urge you to go south to east Ft. Lauderdale to Kaizen, or Thai Spice or Kaluz.

Horrible experience

Our experience was underwhelming. The host was rude upon arrival, which set a negative tone. We were initially seated inside, but the bathroom was a mess with water everywhere. After requesting to move outside, things didn’t improve—the truffle fries were disappointing, though the burger and drinks were just okay. Overall, a 5/10 experience.

Went there yestersay for an early dinner. The service was excellant. The food was horrible.
The Margherita Pizzette tasted, at best, like frozen pizza and the dough was not even pizza dough.
The Grille Burger had been previously cooked and then re-cooked prior to serving.
The chicken lettuce wraps had so much sugar in the filling that it was like eating oversweetened candy.
Needless to say, I will not be back.

Average at best. I went here knowing the food was not going to blow anyone away with an insultingly over-priced sub-par wine list (think $16 for a glass of Josh wine), but what is beyond disappointing prompting this review was the horrific service received by a server named Scott. He had an attitude before he even approached the table. When asked about certain dishes he was annoyed to be asked a question in the first place and couldn’t be bothered to answer without a snide comment and superior complex. If your consumer is unsure of what to get, maybe try to suggest something or offer an alternative? News flash you can also upsell dishes for a higher tip. He completely ruined the experience and occasion of family members coming to town to visit. Not only will we never be going back here, but will certainly advise others to steer clear. There are too many other options to waste your time and money at a place with bar food and a server with an attitude.

Called for pickup. Whoever answered phone was quick and hung up before I finished talking. I called back. Ordered two meals. Both were messed up upon returning home. Fries in only one meal. Appetizer ordered was missing most of it. Meal cold and rolls seemed mushy like defrosted not fresh! So disappointed! Very expensive mistake. Won’t be going back. Nasty rude hostess.

The place is beautiful, the food is fantastic. Unfortunately our service was extremely lacking. We had a decent size table of people but the service was not there. Almost as if we where forgotten about. Took well over an hour to even get our food order in, then took another hour to get our food. It's too bad because it could be such a wonderful restaurant if it had service.

Brett, our waiter, was super friendly and efficient. Even switched out a dish when we were unhappy with it. Consistently good food and service.

I've been to Max's a few times when visiting my father in Boca. He is elderly and has difficulty walking, so when visiting recently we ordered take out. One entree was the meatloaf, which was exceptionally delicious and the other was crab crusted snapper. It was fishy, clearly not fresh, and inedible. It was thrown in the trash. Had I dined in, I would have sent that entree back to the kitchen. I contacted Max's via email to relate the problem and the fact that I thought it would be appropriate for a refund or credit for the more than $40 it cost for that entree that ended up in the garbage. Never heard back so that's why I am writing this negative review. Bad meal and bad customer service.

That stated, a few days after writing this review I was contacted by the general manager, Kevin Burns, who apologized for missing my email and sent me a gift card to compensate for the disappointing entree. He was extremely nice and conciliatory and I will not hesitate to give Max's another chance next time we are in Boca. I've eaten there on a few occasions and this was the only time I ever had an issue.

This was my second time back to Max's. The first was a wonderful experience. I had the meat loaf and it was to die for. Service was great so it warranted a second visit. This visit was not so good. My waitress did the best she could. They were busy and horribly understaffed. It took about an hour for my meal. The waitress kept appologizing and promised repeatly to check on my meal. We were never offered water and asked for it at the end of our meal. This time I ordered ribs. They were dry, over cooked and lacked meat. Normally I would have sent them back but I did not want to wait another hour. The waitress never inquired about our satisfaction. The manager came over to assist collecting my bill. He never asked about my satisfaction either, hense the review. I would have thought a upscale restaurant in Mizner Park in Boca would be more consistant.

They need to adjust their lunch menu time. We can according to what’s listed on their website but apparently it’s not accurate

Haven’t been here in about 12 years and it’s still a great spot for lunch. I had the chicken Milanese and my wife had the chop salad. The standout for me was the chicken Milanese is pan fried, as it should be, instead of the lazy deep fried version. It arrived hot and crisp, with a grilled lemon and outstanding Mediterranean salad, with pickled onions. I have to say I was impressed with not just the quality, but the portion size, which was extremely generous. My wife said her salad was also excellent

Dinner for two at 7 on a Wednesday night. Lively spot with good food and service. Not pricey. Chicken Milanese was especially tasty.
