Juan is an excellent sushi chef. We enjoyed the food and banter. Decor could use a tiny bit of updating to make it slightly more appealing, such as the butcher block countertop blocking the glass door - otherwise all good.
Amazing team amazing fish definitely go if you want best in class with a modern twist. Not traditional but that's ok
Fresh fish. A bit tuna heavy in 18 courses. No uni or other select japanese white fish (had some but not many) for premium price. Rice a bit too firm. Chef was excellent and friendly.
Disappointing experience. It started bad and never got better. We ordered a bottle of wine from the list and after the server spent 10 minutes she came back and said they didn't have it so we asked for another bottle that we could see in the wine fridge and she didn't know the price so it took another 10 to 15 minutes to figure out the price. The meal also started 30 minutes late but I guess they felt they made up for it by rushing through the courses. The food was adequate but not very imaginative for the price. It's nowhere close to other omakase places in South Florida.
We loved Sunset Sushi in their old location, but unfortunately this new iteration of the concept misses the mark. First of all, it's billed as a two-hour experience. We were finished in an hour (not counting dessert). Had I known it was so short, I would have just gone to Sushi by Bou for $65 per person. While our chef Yana was lovely, the seating was half empty and there just wasn't any energy or showmanship that we have experienced at other omakase restaurants. 7pm on a Saturday during season should be full, but there were only 5 seats filled out of 12. The ambiance was also just off. I get that they were going for a speakeasy vibe, but it really just felt like a boring cold room in the back of a restaurant. The menu, while tasty, pales in comparison to what they used to do. I know they reduced the price and amount of courses, but for $98, I expected a few more imaginative dishes. There was just not a ton of variation in format or tastes, and since they were out of the shrimp, they instead served a crab salad “taco” which was just a heavy unwelcome mayo bomb. The sweet potato cheesecake at the end was very good, but again, it felt like it didn't belong as part of the meal. It was very heavy and I felt like it was meant to make sure you left feeling full. With so much competition in the area, I expected more. We will likely not be back.
Original sunset sushi was way better. You don't serve farm raised fish and pretend it's high end Omakase experience.
A step back from the old Sunset Sushi on Federal. The Omakase there was much better and varied - as well as 18 plates. Now the scheme is to lower the # of plates and “upsell” more dishes. Neither the standard dishes or the upselling was up to par from previous chef. Bring him back!
Excellent sushi, our second time, first in the new location. 12 courses for the base menu; I would consider re ordering the ones you like after as a la carte. We got a small Polaroid as a memento.
What a nice surprise this place was! Each course in the omakase simply outstanding. Terrific and attentive service. Will definitely be back.
Since they moved it's just a different experience. The ambience isn't as nice and they changed the courses. The sushi is incredible still though.

Hands down one of the best omakase experiences I’ve ever had. This spot is a must if you’re in the area. The intimate setting with the chef creates a truly special atmosphere, and every bite was pure magic. Honestly it’s hard to pick a favorite piece because each one was so delicious 10/10 can’t wait to go back

I made a mistake of ordering the food hear from DoorDash. DoorDash mess it up completely and when I called the complain the manager his name is Michael literally said I'll take care of it and brought the balance and the correct order in about 15 minutes for me please in a call where I couldn't even get a human on the phone at DoorDash when I called the store Michael said how often they mess it but he was going to make it good and he did so the food is actually and the management is even better so if you have a chance to try this place I highly encourage it. As for Michael and tell him that he's making a difference there. FYI he's from Cape Town South Africa and quite a wonderful gentleman so would have the recommended I'm looking forward to eating in the restaurant it's so rather than ordering from DoorDash which has become so subpar and nobody cares but apparently Michael did and I keep saying it because I see this less and less these days wear owners are managers actually stick up for doing the right thing especially on a busy night and I can give this one five stars and recommended wholeheartedly.

Sunset Sushi is, without a damn doubt, best sushi around. Treat yourself and just go, quit overthinking it. The service is top notch and the freshness of the fish is unbeatable. We recommend EVERYONE who asks where to get sushi to treat themselves to a visit. WE LOVE YOU SUNSET SUSHI
