The server paid no attention to what we were saying. Kids were supposed to get chocolate chips pancakes, my son was supposed to get over easy eggs, he got scrambled. Food came out in sections, and server never came back to table. She just kept watching and cutting eyes. I went to manager about the multiple problems and she just said well what do you want? No apology from anyone. It was disappointing. Not a good start to our day

I have to say that this is just another run of the mill, small country town, Florida restaurant. Not the cleanest place, but not dirty either. I stopped for breakfast this weekend and though the food was edible, it was nothing to write home about. I had two eggs, (over easy) home fries, bacon and a small OJ. The eggs were a little under cook, still being able to see the clear gelatin, the home fries were nothing more than a handful of redskin potatoes dropped into a deep fryer and served up. (A little over cooked) No salt, no pepper, no seasoning. The bacon, 4 strips; though a good portion, was a little on the well done side for me. Actually it was a lot on the well done side. Finally my OJ had a weird flavor/sent to it, that I didn’t enjoy.
My server was cordial, but seemed to be preoccupied. She did not check back to see it everything was OK, but another employee did. When I was done, I sat for almost 10 minutes before I finally walked up to the register and said that I hadn’t received a check but would like to pay. (It was not overly crowded or busy) Late breakfast early lunch 11:15) Price wasn’t bad $16.50 plus $3.00 tip, but for $20 bucks there are better options out there. Maybe I just caught them on an off day, but consistency is key in the restaurant business and this experience will prevent me from stopping in again.

Went here for dinner. A nice little hidden gem. Good food, great service, and very reasonable prices. I look forward to going here again in the future.

DINNER REVIEW: THE SOUTHERN TABLE

501 S State St., Bunnell, FL 32110

With a week off from teaching theater classes at Matanzas High School, I’ve been doing some work at Flagler Playhouse and decided to walk somewhere for lunch today. Lucky for me—I randomly chose The Southern Table Restaurant.

The Southern Table is exactly what I wanted it to be—a traditional diner-style restaurant just a few steps off US Highway 1, the type of place you see all over the southern states on road trips. The building was originally designed to be an Italian restaurant, so the clay tiled roof accents in the dining room do give it a bit more style than your average small town diner. It has a big front porch with outdoor tables where guests are welcome to enjoy their meal with their dogs in tow.

The menu is extensive, and since I decided to write a review I chose to order something iconic: a country fried steak with macaroni & cheese and steak fries. The gravy on the steak is what makes it special, and the Southern Table nailed it—the gravy was perfect—creamy and savory without trying to be something it’s not. No one wants to eat a creative country fried steak: what we want is comfort and familiarity, and that’s what they serve at The Southern Table. Ma would have said “that plate needs some color!” so I added some ketchup to the steak fries. Perfect.

There was a crowd in there for lunch, and the waitresses seemed to know everybody but me. Everyone was friendly without being up in my business. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves American food and small town businesses.

Bring your dog.

Awesome service real good food and friendly prompt service. Sweat tea was right on point. The place was packed, we ordered and got our food fast. We also made friends outside with some folks from Charleston West Virginia. My home area I grew up in.
