Service was poor, appetizer never came out. Main course was great & made up for the overall bad experience.

We were looking forward to a nice dinner celebrating our daughter's final night with us. We ordered the pork chops, fresh fish catch of the day and short ribs. They were all beautifully presented but the pork chops were cold and the fish dinner totally lacked flavor. We had a substantial bill for a mediocre meal. Disappointing.

We are locals so when we showed up and saw the restaurant was at a hotel I was a little concerned, but the view and the ambiance was very inviting. We had two servers , one in training, both were great! Service was good and the food was excellent! I ordered the shepherds pie and my husband ordered the marker burger... both very delicious! Will definitely go back again! Highly recommended going at sunset, the view is amazing!!

We had a great experience early in the week. Went back on last night in the area. We just got our appetizer when the food runner drop off the dinners. This time the fish was a little dry. Not as good,so disappointed. I think the waiter was overwhelmed.

A beautiful evening, what more can I say. Our waitstaff was amazing, Gather is such a beautiful place for such a beautiful, quiet evening.

I waited until I returned home from holiday before leaving my review, as I think it offers fairness if I still feel the same. We visited wkcm 29/12/25. Firstly, this place is in a such a beautiful location. The restaurant however is just weird. I echo another recent review it’s a cafe’, lounge, bar, restaurant. It’s as confused as your customers. It is my understanding it is also joined to Next door restaurant same chefs / owners. Our server was friendly but not on the ball. She offered us salt and pepper when we had all nearly finished. And deserts were offered about 40 mins of us waiting so we didn’t bother. Food was okay, nothing to sing and dance about, but vegetables were cold. For the prices we expected a lot better & for a marina area we thought it would be quite a dressy restaurant. We were wrong, we stood out in our glittering Xmas outfits. Baseball caps and sneakers made it feel like a Hooters with a hefty price tag. Sorry I hate leaving negative reviews. But when we go on holiday we do a lot of research into restaurants locally etc & this one we really had high expectations from glowing reviews. We were all very disappointed. It’s not got any welcoming feel, it’s way too bright for an evening meal. This place needs serious intervention at what it wants to be… Sorry but we wouldn’t return as it is now. In fact, we had Next door booked too, but cancelled when we realised it was the same restaurant under a different name so same chefs, staff etc. We all agreed after our Gather experience it was a no from all of us..
What we ordered:
Fish and chips - husband said two different types of fish he hasn’t a clue what it was but it was okay, his fries overcooked.
Short rib - my Mom said meat was tasty but
Mushrooms and veg were served cold.
Steak & mash - for me steak was cooked well as asked, but my mash and veg served cold.
We didn’t complain as we are British and that’s just not how we work. Wine was also served too warm for a Rose’ . We just won’t return.

First I want to preface, the service was not the issue. Very attentive and knowledgeable about menu, zero issues there.

The food however, really really bad. The whole place seems a bit confused, without even saying so the server explained that there are multiple chefs and the menu doesn’t know what it wants to be as a theme. HER words, not ours. Ok… Everything on the menu sounds great, it’s fun, it’s different, pairings seemed cohesive, it could have been a hit.

Food:
Brussels sprouts: 4/10. The only saving grace. They were cooked nicely, seasoned well, however not a shred of bacon in sight or taste despite saying so on menu.

0. I’m nauseous just typing this. It looked nice, beautiful plate presentation, but it was both over and under cooked. If you know you know.. very difficult to cut with a knife, so it was rubbery, tough, and quite chewy- but the outside was gelatinous and wet. So it was cooked too long with not enough heat. It was the worst I’ve ever had. The sauce it came on was also a flop, it was missing something, salt/acid/something to combat the raw sea life..

Fish and chips: 4/10. Partners choice, I’ve never seen him not eat the fries, said they were a salt bomb. The fish was catch of the day, I believe server said red snapper but can’t confirm. Whatever it was, was mostly dark meat.. how? I don’t know.. He did not eat much. Oh, and the coleslaw was warm. There are many things that are ok warm, coleslaw is not one of them imo.

Salmon: -10/10. My choice, horrible. I couldn’t even eat it. The oyster mushrooms were half cooked, and when you don’t fully cook them they taste like dirt. Literally half cooked earth. Broccoli-also not fully cooked. The “Japanese sweet potato” was not in fact Japanese sweet potato. I know because it’s my favorite potato and could have turned this dumpster fire around…But it was a variety of puréed purple sweet potato. They are not the same at all. Looking at other photo reviews it’s clear they didn’t Japanese at the time and subbed them out which is a bummer I wouldn’t have ordered. Lastly the salmon was murdered with the honey Sriracha glaze with a pool of black soy looking sauce nestled by the imposter potato. It was all around the worst entree I’ve had to date.

Atmosphere: As confused as the menu. It was half bar, half cafe, part gift shop, and a dash of night club. The lighting was all over the place, sprawling leather chesterfield sofas next to hanging t-shirts for sale. I didn’t know where to look..

At the end of the day I went back and forth about leaving a review but this place wasn’t cheap, it was our one dinner out on vacation and it was truly a waste of an outfit. We can laugh about it, but I would honestly think about choosing a different place. I believe that saying “too many cooks in the kitchen” is a saying for a reason..
