Place was packed, there was a wait time which was to be expected. We were able to get drinks while waiting which was great. Ordered 2 apps when seated. They never came. Our food orders came and then the waitress put in the apps order again after when we said no thanks we have our food now. One of the apps was one of our kids meals. Never apologized, nothing. Food was mediocre at best. Never need to go back.

Fried Chicken Sandwich with Blackened Seasoning was absolutely phenomenal. Fries had great seasoning as well. I unfortunately live over an hour away but would definitely eat here again next time I’m in the area. I was very interested in trying the Key Lime Pie but they were unfortunately out at the time. The chocolate cake was very rich and had good flavor but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that over the other desserts

Always clean. Good food. Great service by all the wait staff over the years. Ginger today was no exception - friendly, personable, immediately waited on us, kept checking on us to ensure everything as ordered and if we needed anything. Very pleased with the service!

I don’t normally write reviews like this, but I feel this needs to be said.
I’ve proudly served this country through four combat tours in Iraq as a combat medic, Airborne Ranger, and with the 82nd Airborne Division. I’ve jumped out of planes, treated the wounded under fire, saved lives, and I’ve also watched friends make the ultimate sacrifice. Like many veterans and first responders, I carry those experiences with me every day.
Recently, I visited Abe’s Place Tap & Grill on Missouri Ave in Clearwater, Florida, While paying, I politely asked if they offered a military discount. To my surprise, I was told they only offer a discount to police officers in uniform.
Let me be clear:
I have tremendous respect for law enforcement, and I absolutely believe they deserve recognition and thanks for their service. That’s not the issue. What’s disheartening is that:
- The discount is only extended to police in uniform
- There is no similar recognition for other first responders or military/veterans
In a community where so many have served—whether in combat, in emergency rooms, in ambulances, in fire stations, or on patrol—it feels like a missed opportunity to show appreciation more broadly. As someone who has fought for this country, saved lives, and lost brothers and sisters in arms, it honestly stung to realize that my service didn’t seem to count in that moment.
This review isn’t about getting a few dollars off a meal. It’s about principle and acknowledgment. A simple gesture like including veterans and other first responders in a service discount policy goes a long way in making people feel seen and appreciated.
I hope Abe’s Place Tap & Grill will reconsider their policy and extend their discount to all who serve and have served - military, veterans, firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement—because we all wear the weight of that service, uniform or not.

Took my 85 yr old father there for lunch. The atmosphere was nice and the service was great very friendly and efficient. The food was very good my dad had the BLT and ate more than I have seen him eat in a long time. Will take him back again.
