We're local. Gave 'em a try based on the 4+ rating - unfortunately not nearly what we expected... Food was mediocre. Service was close to the worst ever; while she was pleasant enough, we were constantly chasing our server for basic needs (drink order? forks with the desert plates? spoons for the coffee?) as well as receiving unexpected sides (told one thing, got another). Two in our party were gluten free - their salad comes with croutons (!). The replacement salad comes with a hair in it (they took it off the bill - thanks for that). BTW: meal for 2 ppl $170? Just two drinks? Crazy. Overpriced and overall not a good experience - won't be back.

The restaurant was fairly busy even though it was off season. We didn't sit outside because of seasonal allergies but were placed at a table with a view. My dining partner and I both ordered the Mahi Mahi with seasonal vegetables (carrots and green beans) and a baked potato. It was delicious. So delicious we want to go back. Tonja was our waitstaff and she was a hoot. She made the whole experience even more enjoyable despite the general loudness of the restaurant (not helped by the loud and rambunctious table next to us). We intend to return and ask for Tonja's table before we complete our business trip.

Backwaters in Clearwater is an absolute gem! Our recent visit was nothing short of amazing, and we can’t say enough good things about this place. The food was truly exceptional, every dish was perfectly prepared.
However, what truly made our experience unforgettable was the outstanding service we received from Max. For our party of six, Max went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, making fantastic recommendations that everyone loved. His warm personality and attention to detail made us feel so welcomed and taken care of throughout the evening.
If you’re looking for a wonderful dining experience with fantastic food and phenomenal service, Backwaters is the place to go. Thank you, Max, for making our night so special, we’ll definitely be back!

Thank you for making my sister’s birthday a terrible experience. Our server was the worst we have ever encountered. We think her name was Tanya. She never introduced herself. We first ordered our drinks, my sister ordered a Bloody Mary and I ordered a strawberry frozen margarita. While bringing my sister her drink she told me my DAIQUIRI would be right up. I stopped her and corrected her that I had ordered a margarita! She rushed off to inform the bartender. She brought me a pink slushy with sugar on the top of glass. I sent it back, telling her there was no liquor in this drink and I had ordered salt on glass rim. My sister ordered her rib-eye steak cooked rare to medium. It was well done. At $39, they should have cooked it right. The server eventually came back and ask her manager, Michelle, she was given an $8 credit. Michelle came to see us when the server presented us with the bill and the came back with a higher bill. She said it was a mistake! The mistake was us choosing this place at all!

We were looking for a place to eat during happy hour. We read along the way that this was the best, so we decided to give it a try. The place has a magnificent view. I liked the food; the calamari and shrimp were good. The mini burgers had really good meat. I was thrilled. Since we still had some space, we decided to get the nachos, and I have to say they were very tasty. I can't confirm that it's the best because I haven't tried any others in the area, but I was satisfied, and the signs at the entrance confirm this. Go and enjoy.

We came to Backwaters during a training conference for NIOA. Even though it got very busy with everyone breaking for lunch, we were able to seat ourselves right away on the patio. Our server, Michelle, was outstanding—her personality was warm and upbeat, and she made great menu recommendations. She took excellent care of our entire team from start to finish. Great food, great service, and an awesome waterfront setting. Highly recommend! The grouper tacos blackened were great!
