I had an appointment today at Moffitt Cancer Center — I’ve been battling leukemia for the last three years, which has been an emotional roller coaster. Sometimes, it’s the small things that help lift your spirits. After my appointment, I wanted to treat myself and try one of Panera’s new sandwiches.
Unfortunately, I’m allergic to the bread that the sandwich normally comes on, so I asked the cashier if I could switch the bread. She kindly said yes, and I placed my order. While waiting by the pickup area, I witnessed the manager/director of operations Jamie instructing the employee making my sandwich to disregard my allergy and use the original bread anyway. I saw my sandwich being made incorrectly and placed in my bag.
When I calmly confronted the manager about knowingly ignoring a customer’s allergy, she showed no concern and made no effort to address the situation. The owner Kevin then stepped in and raised his voice at us. I explained that I had just come from the cancer center and was simply hoping to enjoy a small comfort meal. His response was that I had “other things to worry about” and that they “made the sandwich as requested,” before telling us to take our food and leave — with no apology, no understanding, and no empathy.
I left feeling disheartened and disrespected. Food allergies are not optional, and kindness costs nothing. I hope Panera reviews this incident seriously and provides better training on compassion and food safety.

I’d like to take a moment to sincerely compliment the staff at the Clearwater Mall Panera Bread. They are consistently warm, friendly, and genuinely good-hearted people. I’ve personally witnessed their kindness on several occasions. One example that stands out involves a man with special needs who frequently visits the store. He wears a green t-shirt, often talks to himself, and can sometimes be loud. The staff always treat him with patience and respect. What truly speaks volumes is how they show kindness even when they think no one is watching—never a dismissive gesture or glance, just consistent, quiet compassion. In a world where kindness can be rare, the team at this Panera Bread sets a beautiful example. Their attitude makes this location feel welcoming and comforting—almost like a second home. I especially enjoy stopping by for a coffee after a long day of meetings. Thank you to the entire team for the warmth and respect you show to everyone who walks through your doors.

I met my sister for brunch on Sat, got there just in time for cutoff. Ordered Avocado toast and coffee. Went to table. Was in big talk when delivered, (hadn’t seen sister in a year) when noticed food realized it was sad 😞 thin slice of crust, smeared with Avocado (like you would butter bread) three very thin, small tomato’s…. The worst Avocado Toast I’ve ever had in my life!!! Took it up front to complain as leaving and line too long. Threw it away. Coffee good. Be better…

Ordered a “pick two” at the kiosk…. Easy breezy…. Order was up asap despite the lunch crowd. Found a seat easily, place was clean and the food was yum…. Especially the Autumn Squash soup!!! I’m telling my self it’s a vegetable soup so it must be good for me…. But is SO delish I’m skeptical. IDC… I’m getting it every time!

Very disappointed today. We showed up at 1 pm. They were completely out of tomato soup and chips. We ordered 3 meals. 2 pick 2 and one hot sandwich. I stood at the counter with the pick 2 meals done for 10 minutes and had to finally ask where my french dipper was. They didn't even realize they hadn't completed the ticket. The guy i talked to apologized and said he'd bring it out. After 5 minutes my wife went up to find out where the sandwich was only to be told they had run out of steak and had to cook some.

Apparently no one is actually managing this location.
