We went out for Date Night found Rusty's Bistro on Open Table. Directions were spot on and the reception was warm. The restaurant had lots of table availability but we had reservations. Brian was our server and he had charm and full knowledge about the area, and his attitude was very friendly. Our drinks đ„€ had good balance of taste and alcohol that made us happy. We gave the restaurant and Brian 5âïž because of their food and service. This hidden gem is a must visit when you're in the Clearwater area either before or after your Sunset.
Everything was fine, except we wanted a particular server Minerva that we thought was working. But the server we got, Carlos was fine. Except we did have to ask for menus. It wasn't busy, but we had to wait a while to get our checks and we were in a hurry. The food was excellent, as usual.
Restaurant is situated as the Sheraton Sand Key (Marriott family of hotels) and was convenient while attending conference there. Write-up was good for the restaurant / chef and apparently it is off-season so the restaurant was slow and quiet. Seating request was noted upon arrival and honored. Waiter was friendly (maybe a little too friendly for semi-formal setting). Food was good as my wife enjoyed her seafood entre very much and the chicken roulade was moist and tasty as were the vegetables. The mushroom risotto looked promising but was too salty. We planned to return the next evening but when we arrived, shortly after they opened for dinner service, we were greeted by the hostess and asked to come back in 30 minutes because they had just seated a party of 20. There must be 50-plus tables in the place and they had just opened for dinner that evening and were not scheduled to be busy. She suggested we go "next door" to the Mainstay Tavern which is another in-hotel dining option and had a wonderful meal there instead. Thought that could have been handled more professionally and differently but I think she was simply flustered and possibly inexperienced. We did discuss with the front desk staff upon check-out as I felt they needed to be aware and to pass along to the F&B manager.
I Had a hamburger. It was good, juicy and flavorful. The nachos were also good. Next time I will only have the cheese on my nachos and get the sauces on the side. The sauces were good, it's just too much plopped on there for my liking. Would definitely come back

We came back for the ribeye steak, but unfortunately it was not on the menu anymore . Sad.
We had a lovely dining experience overall. The grilled octopus was a standoutâperfectly tender and bursting with flavor. It came served on a bed of hummus or some kind of purĂ©e that was incredibly rich and well-seasoned, adding the perfect creamy contrast to the char of the octopus.
The tenderloin was also impressiveâbeautifully soft and juicy, though it leaned a bit more on the rare side than expected for a medium rare. Still, the flavor and quality of the meat made up for it. Iâm not usually one to eat mashed potatoes, but I have to admit, these were absolutely packed with flavor and hard to resist.
We ended the meal with in-house chocolate chip cookies that were warm, gooey, and simply deliciousâan unexpectedly perfect finish.
Service-wise, Julie was very sweet and personable, though a bit forgetful at times. Nothing major, but worth noting if youâre someone who values attentiveness.
Overall, a memorable meal with a few quirks, but the food more than made up for them. Would definitely return.

Please don't overlook this amazing restaurant just because it's in a hotel for all our locals! It's amazing!
Food is terrible and it seems like the chef doesn't know anything about his own kitchen

Nice atmosphere. However, the service was not excellent. We ended up wait 30+ minutes for each course. Unfortunately, when the courses arrived they were mediocre at best.
Our server did explain that the kitchen was backed up and offered to compensate our desserts.

Dined on Memorial Day weekend 2025 Sunday evening. Our server Julie was very pleasant, kind, attentive, friendly and professional. She was hustling every moment! Despite having to take care of several tables she never lost her focus and continued to offer excellent service. You could immediately tell that she enjoyed her job and it showed! If ALL servers in ALL restaurants could be just like her it would be a perfect world! The crusted calamari piccata appetizer was excellent. The Cesar Salad was executed nicely. My wife had the mushroom stuffed tortellini and she did not like the taste. I sampled one of her tortellini's and I did not like it either. It had an âoffâ taste to it but it could be that it just wasn't to our liking. Our server removed it from our bill which was appreciated. Our server apologized and asked if there was anything else that she could get for her and my wife decided that her burrata appetizer and the bread that was served was enough for her this evening. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare and it was tender. Our desserts were delicious. I had the pineapple upside down cake and my wife had the sticky toffee pudding. This is our second visit to Rusty's and it certainly will not be our last. I am a retired executive chef with over thirty years in restaurant and FOH hotel restaurant management. If only I could have had the pleasure of hiring a server as competent as Julie who took care of us on this Sunday evening. A quick word of advice to Rusty's food & beverage manager. DO NOT Julie go anywhere! Do whatever it takes to keep her happy and a key member of your service staff. Servers like her are a rare find!
Great service from the manager!! I was told they closed at a later time a couple days prior. I walked in at 8:55 to order for carry out and was told by the cashier they close at 9. She suggested I speak to the manager about the menu item I was requesting from last year. The manager showed me something similar they have on the menu and he was happy to assist with ease!!

Service is slow, without visible cause. The place wasnât busy. The food is good but I ordered the rigatoni with vodka sauce which was the way it was on the menu, it came with with marinara. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said âyeah itâs confusing.â Husband had the grouper and it was very good. The alcoholic drinks are good. The soda was flat. The dessert was boring not worth the effort or wait. The whole thing beginning to end took 2 hours and we were literally the first couple to walk in at 6pm the place was totally empty.
