We recently returned to The Putnam
Lodge for dinner and it did not disappoint. After enjoying a cocktail at the bar we were escorted to our table. The calamari and escargot appetizers hit the spot before we delighted in our delicious entrees. The service was efficient and friendly. We’ll be back!

The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the food was good. My mom and I ate here on our first night in Florida. It was really nice to just walk downstairs for our meal, since we were exhausted from driving all day and it was late. Our meals started with complimentary buttered rolls paired with dipping oil (excellent!).My mom really enjoyed her oyster dish. They were exactly what she had been craving. I ordered shrimp pasta, which came with one side. I chose mashed potatoes and asked them to add butter and garlic. They definitely did not skimp on the garlic. This ended up being a good thing because my shrimp meal was pretty bland. We were eating close to closing and there weren't many staff around. No one asked us how our meals were. I ended up mixing my potatoes into my pasta, and enjoyed that concoction. The portion sizes were generous.I would recommend this restaurant to other hotel patrons, or to anyone who wishes to enjoy a more upscale meal in a charming, historic setting.*Since I was a guest of the hotel, I had access to the dining area later in the week, so I took some extra pictures to add to my review before the restaurant opened one day.

Parking: The 'paved' parking area is small, but many people park in the grass on the front lawn. All parking is shared with guests of the hotel.

First the positives. The building is beautiful and the ambiance is spot on. Our server was very friendly and welcoming.

The food was just okay. For the price, we expected it to be better than okay. I would go back for drinks and apps, based solely on the environment, but probably not for dinner again.

Enjoyed our stay very much! We will definitely be back! My son loved all the animals. Very close to Steinhatchee.

The best opportunity that could happen to this beautiful old historic place is NEW OWNERS! Extremely poorly managed! Food was ok, nothing to write home about considering prices (which I gladly pay at some other actual fine dining establishments). Second time we’ve tried this place and the last. We called ahead and made reservations for Friday night on holiday weekend, no problem. We were the only party other than maybe 3 other tables in the entire place. Waited over 15 minutes on drinks (not mixed drinks- simple bourbon & wine for our table. 2 of our party of 4 had their filet entrees served THIRTY MINUTES before the rest of our tables’ food came out! (No explanation, no apologies from management whatsoever) Asked for after dinner coffee and dessert menu- they are “out” of coffee…?! I never go into such detail or time to leave a review but felt the need to in this case…avoid this place at all cost if you want a nice dinner!!

I was hoping this place was great but it was far from it. The steaks had no taste And tasted like it was cooked on a griddle. It was very pricey which would not have bothered me if the food was good. Our bill(party of 3) was $185 without a tip. We all had a horrible steak with one side. The only positive thing about this place was our waitress. She was great!!! She was very friendly and down to earth.

My husband and I went to their restaurant, The 1927 Steakhouse, to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary since we lived close by and did not want to make the trip to Gainesville. We were prepared to spend some money and eat a good steak. Let me say that all the cloth napkins and orchid garnishes in the world cannot make up for bad food. While the wine and shrimp cocktail were good, the beef filet should have been an embarrassment for them to serve. They were tough and poorly cooked...for $34 each a la cart. The mashed potatoes (for an additional $6) were over-salted. When the sub-par steak was mentioned to our waitress, no effort was made to correct it. Had it not been for the pleasant surroundings and waitstaff, I would be giving this restaurant a 1 star review. Do yourself a favor...make the drive to Gainesville to go to a real steakhouse. The Putnam Lodge needs to take a look at the definition of "fine dining"...or change its name to The 1927 Mis-Steak House.

Building is old, Victorian-looking. My fiancé and I had a reservation and were sat at a tiny table in front of the dining room. Onion rings were the only option I had for appetizer because I didn’t want seafood. They were fine. Bread was fine.Music began to play behind me. The table in front of me had their phone out, recording the singer directly behind me as I ate. Because our table was so small, I did not have the option to sit facing the music so I wouldn’t be recorded while I ate.My fiancé and I ordered a ribeye, corn casserole, and asparagus to share. The corn casserole was no bigger than the flower used to garnish the plate. He had a bite and I did too. The portion is an ounce? Very little asparagus. We were not told by our server that the sides are unbelievably small and not enough for one person, much less two, and not worth $6. The steak came out well done and chewy. When the server came back by, we were ready to order dessert but she dropped the check instead. I was expecting so much more.

Had a fantastic dinner. The 1927 salad is delicious and the filet with blue cheese infused mashed potatoes …. Amazing! And very friendly service!

Server had no knowledge of Menu Specials. The food was terrible. Tiny Portions No ice in the water. Crème Brûlée was as thin as paper, not sweet and completely inedible. Worst Dining Experience. We brought in out of town guests for dinner and were totally embarrassed. We had to apologize for the poor quality.
