We went to Gestos with great expectations. We were greeted by a swarm of servers and noted that there were no diners however it was 5 pm.Our server quickly brought us menus and offered us seltzer water for six dollars a bottle. We asked for seltzer out of the gun that was not available because they had their own special seltzer. That started a series of clashes with the menu and pricing. We got our seltzer water and I asked for a glass of house Chardonnay and it quickly appeared...
Just opened Neopolitan style pizza place in the old Amar location and prior to that, the old(now moved to coral gables?) Scuola Vecchia. Gesto, which is owned by Amar, uses the same oven as Scuola Vecchia, which is wood burning, so that’s a good thing as most others use gas. We ordered the simple Margarita to taste the pizza and not necessarily a bunch of toppings. The sour dough pizza, made with imported flour was very very good. The taste of the pizza is great and well executed. It did take a very long time to get the pizza, over an hour wait for a small pie of pizza and it wasn't even busy.
Service really needs improvement.
