Lunch with the traveling hikers was special time to get together and Next Door Bistro was new for 2 out of 3 of us. Fantastic friendly service on the patio with soft Atlantic breezes after dealing with days of hurricane Milton. Coffee martini and White Sangria were sublime. I had the BL(fried green)Tomato with fries. Colleagues had Croque Monsieur and Goat cheese and beet salad. I can recommend all!

It’s been a really long time since I’ve gone to a restaurant and felt like I was served! From the moment I sat down, our server Cameron was spectacular. He was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, spoke well, and overall made us feel great each time he left our table. I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was hands down the best lobster bisque I have ever had! It had two little perfect pieces of toasted parmesan bread for dipping and a little sherry on the side to sauce up your bisque a little more if you want. Such pretty presentation too. I always go to SoNapa for my lobster bisque but now Next Door will be my go-to. The fried green tomatoes were great too but that bisque hit it out of the park. You must go visit this place and keep it on your rotation.

When my friend’s Brother was visiting from Seattle, we wanted him to enjoy the Flagler Beach experience, which includes our favorite restaurant - Next Door.

So we arrived early to get an outside table with an ocean view. We talked him into sharing our two favorite meals - the roasted beet salad & the spaghetti squash main dish, and told him to pick the protein that appealed the most to him. He chose one of the specials: butternut squash ravioli with chicken. Our waiter understood that we were sharing & splitting the meals & cost three ways.

When he brought two very generous portions of the beet salad, I assumed he would be returning with at least a third empty bowl/plate for me. My friends weren’t so sure. So when he returned to check on something we asked. His response was that is how the kitchen splits dishes. We were a bit surprised he didn’t explain that when we ordered. It would have saved our asking. I will say the two portions of that course and the subsequent courses were more than enough food. It was the lack of communication from our waiter and his blaming the kitchen, who has no way of knowing what we requested - unless he tells them. Here is one opportunity to do better.

The great thing is the three of us “share well with others” and we left happy. Especially when a sudden downpour rained in & the owner leapt into action to bring the rain curtains down.

The only other thing I think Next Door could do better on - is its wine by the glass. I can’t comment on any of the bottles of wine they offer, because I never dared to order any of them. But their glasses are at best lackluster. There are some that I could not finish. I know - me!

My suggestion sit down with Keith or Julie of Uncork’d for great, innovative suggestions for wines that are reasonable and “glass worthy”. I have learned so much about wine from them. Next Door’s bartenders make fantastic cocktails, but they could broaden their base with better wines.

And before you ask - we wrapped up the Flagler Beach experience at Uncork’d.

So bottom line - Next Door is an amazing experience. But if more than two of you want to split/share be sure your waiter understands & will at least provide an empty bowl or plate.

I know I will be back.

Parking: Depending on when you go & the weather - parking can be a challenge. We always car pool there. The free lots are usually full during the day, and A1A is not much better.

Not sure how the food is, but my husband and I were seated in the outside dining area today and were ignored for 20 minutes. The servers were in and out frequently serving the tables around us, but no one ever came over to even ask us if we wanted a glass of water. We left when the group of 4 that got seated directly behind us got served (who arrived after us). This has never happened to me at a restaurant before- absolutely shocked and disappointed.

A relatively new addition to Flagler Beach; outstanding. Beautiful contemporary decor, impressive eclectic menu with something for everyone. Fabulous mushroom soup, salad, truffle fries and pan fried salmon. Do you really think I forgot to have dessert...creme Brule with berries and fresh whipped cream ?. All served by a wonderful gal, Beth along with many suggestions.
