Worst Sicilian pizza ever! I grew up eating it. I so enjoyed helping my mom and grandma making it. Instead of my own explanation I googled it. What makes Sicilian pizza different?
AI Overview
+5
Sicilian pizza is distinguished by its thick, square-cut crust, often described as airy and spongy, and is typically baked in a rectangular pan. It often features a generous layer of tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings like sausage, vegetables, and onions. The dough is usually made with a combination of flour, water, olive oil, and yeast, and is known for absorbing the oil in the pan, resulting in a crispy bottom and a soft middle.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Crust:
Thickness:
Sicilian pizza boasts a thick, substantial crust, often an inch or more thick, which can be likened to focaccia.
Shape:
It is typically square or rectangular, baked in a pan, rather than the round shape of traditional pizzas.
Texture:
The crust is known for its airy, spongy interior and a crispy, almost fried bottom due to the oil in the pan.
2. Toppings:
Sauce:
Sicilian pizza often features a thick layer of tomato sauce, sometimes layered on top of the cheese.
Cheese:
Mozzarella is a common topping, but some variations use other cheeses like caciocavallo.
Toppings:
It can be loaded with a variety of toppings, including sausage, vegetables, artichokes, onions, and more.
3. Preparation:
Dough:
The dough is made with flour, water, olive oil, and yeast, and is allowed to rise for an extended period before baking.
Pan Baking:
It's baked in a rectangular pan, often oiled, which contributes to the crispy bottom.
Topping Order:
While New York-style pizzas typically put sauce on top of the cheese, Sicilian pizza often has the sauce underneath, allowing the cheese to caramelize and bubble.
In essence, Sicilian pizza is a hearty, flavorful experience with a focus on a thick, crispy crust and generous toppings.
We put pepperoni and/or anchovies on the dough then the sauce (loaded with onions) and last was the cheese - parma and lots of it. We made at least 20 of them at a time... lots of cousins lol.
Great local spot.
Best pizza place in Hudson. Come check them out
The closest to NY Italian we have found so far. Hard to find a decent pizza crust in Florida. Calzones are huge. Friendly staff and fair prices.

One of my absolute favorite spots to go when I’m on the right side of town! The staff is very polite, reasonable, and the food is delicious. Can’t recommend the garlic knots enough (the sauce is addictive), and Sam is the best waitress I’ve ever had!

I’m staying at the Inn on the Gulf because I lost my home in the flood. Obviously I can’t afford to eat delicious food here every day I ordered a pie and it’s the worst pizza I’ve ever had. Thanks Sal’s.

Fresh ingredients. Excellent service. Way more than what you might expect given that it’s located in a strip mall.
When I was told 47+ for two pizzas I wasn't all that happy, but was hungry and had kids to feed. So I excepted it . Well then get home to eat and was totally blown away by how much no one here liked it. It definitely wasn't worth anywhere near what they charged. I don't like little Caesars at all , but would go there before going to sals again. I will post this on the other sites , so hopefully no one I know loses money like I just did. I'm sorry to complain but I feel like I was ripped off .

It was our first time dining at Sal’s, and we enjoyed every moment of it! Samantha our server, and the owner’s daughter, was an absolute gem. She curated a wonderful dining experience for us and we cannot wait to go back! Not only is the pizza delicious and affordable, but they have many different options if you are in the mood for something else! We definitely will be back. It is the perfect place for a little date night spot. Thanks again, Samantha!

Loved this place. Met the owners and their daughter Samantha. Absolute sweethearts! The food is terrific, the service was even better. Atmosphere could use some work but maybe swap out the cafeteria tables for some booths some mood music Italian or even just some mellow music in the back ground and a little less of a cafeteria vibe but otherwise it was great. We've never dined in assuming it was always a puck up or delivery place, but after a recommendation from a close friend, we were blessed to finally dine in. We will be back soon and really glad to live so close.

Last I checked, Greek salad comes with Romaine lettuce, not spring mix salad. They charge u out the butt for a salad that doesn't even have the right ingredients. Tighten up guys
