Over-proud of what they have. Service here has (always) been smug and their offensive recent price increase was my last trip to this local business. (Positive points near the bottom).
Last time I went in, I purchased a "Drummie" (4 drumsticks with 2 sides) and a large Chicken Soup. I received a total bill of $23.00. I mentioned that I only ordered the Drummie and soup so there had to be a mistake. The girl, with a smug smile on her face explained that they raised their pricing and it was abundantly clear that she actually got joy out of telling shocked customers about the increase. I thought to myself, "well, guess I'm not coming here too often anymore". That was until I got home and found that my soup (that had almost doubled in price) had 2 (two) pieces of chicken in it, each about the size of my thumb. I almost brought it back, but realized I didn't want to be seen as a nuisance (which is how I felt every time going in there regardless).
Cost breakdown (Publix & Wal-Mart Retail References):
The average price of a whole chicken is $1.67/lb.
The average size of a whole chicken is 5.7 lbs ($9.52 @ $1.67/lb)
I got (roughly) 1/16 of a pound in my soup (value $0.10)
Whole bag of Egg Noodles (No Yolks Brand) $3.50 containing 7 servings (so $0.50 per serving). Carrots $0.98/lb. (Let's say 1/4 per serving which is generous, so $0.25) Celery $2.87/bunch (Let's again say 1/4 per serving which is again generous, so $0.72). Spices (varies, but there are not a lot of spices in the soup and definitely minimal to no salt) Let's go high and say $0.25 for spices. I'll include salt in this in case someone accidentally put some in there :D <----- (See, I can be smug too!)
So, basically, I paid $13.00 for a soup worth $1.82 (Retail cost) which is roughly 600% markup or EBITDA profit of $11.18. That is not taking into consideration that restaurants purchase meats and produce in bulk at decent savings so the numbers are actually slightly skewed in their favor. In all fairness (to anyone that doesn't understand EBITDA, so to be clear), these numbers are just product and do not include overhead costs - rent, insurance, electricity, water, payroll, equipment, training, taxes, loss and so on, BUT, if we were to break down the cost of their "Smokey" (and really anything else), you would start to see that they are in actuality quite overpriced for what they are serving and especially when you consider how one is treated as a paying customer. (I see a lot of reviews with similar complaints).
In the end:
is their food good? Yes.
Do they make a healthy and quality product? Yes.
Are they consistent? No.
Are you treated differently based on how busy they are? Yes.
Is their product actually worth the markup? You decide but I say no.
You may be smug when you are busy, but keep it up and you won't have that problem much longer. Your handful of "loyals" (I was one of them) can't keep the lights on forever without attracting and retaining new clientele. It's basic economics.
Please note that I (did) note positive attributes about this business that I believe in. Their food IS good and they DO use quality ingredients. I do not want to come across as someone who went in one time, got them on a bad day and decided to act like this business ruined my life. Not the case. This review is based on multiple visits over many years and when I (do) write reviews, I try and only do so when I have long-term experience with an establishment.
My industry experience (retired) includes Head Chef, Sous Chef, General Manager (and other positions) in the food service industry. Establishment's Branding intentionally not disclosed. I am not and have never been employed by or affiliated with CR Chick's.

I used to come here often but I have realized over time that the food is hit or miss and same with the service. Some days it seems like the people working there don’t want to be there and it also gets reflected in their food they make for the customers. Now I don’t eat there anymore. I found it too inconsistent for my liking. You permanently lost a customer.
Great for rotisserie chicken

Literally the best place in town. If you eat chicken, you need to give this place your money. And don't forget to tip the staff! They're the ones kicking butt in the kitchen!

All great food and service !!
Ordered the 1/4 Chicken White with Green Beans and Mac and Cheese with a fountain drink.Chicken was extremely dry, and while the skin was delicious, the meat itself was bland. I'd rather have had a Walmart Rotisserie Chicken. The Mac and cheese was also bland with only a slight onion taste for some reason. The green beans were good though. I got a Dr. Pepper from the soda fountain and ended up throwing it out because it tasted like the nozzle has never been cleaned. Coupled with the rest of my meal I was extremely disappointed and would never recommend this location regardless of the good reviews.

It is a shock to give a place 5 stars when they don't carry Coke Zero ? But, this place pulls it off. They always seemed staffed well for customer demand, they handle demand extremely well when they couldn't possibly predict higher or lower demand, the place is clean and enjoyable (for the type of restaurant they intend to be), their people are always awesome, the cook conversations are understandably humorous and "rougher" due to the stresses of their job while remaining professional and keeping each other in check, the food is balanced across prompt, fresh, high quality, and tasty at the same time. Well done, team! I'm glad you're a hometown destination.
