El Potro Mexican Restaurant

I had to place a large catering order, short turnaround time, and El Potro came through!

I visited a few Mexican spots before landing at El Potro Mexican Restaurant in Lake City, and I’m so glad I did.

From the moment I walked in, Ms. Irma (the hostess on duty) took care of me. She made sure I understood what was happening, walked me through different options, and honestly… she heard what I was trying to say even when I didn’t fully know what to ask for. I knew what I needed, but I didn’t have all the “catering language,” and she helped me put it together into a package that was perfect.

The restaurant itself was nicely renovated, very clean, and had a smooth flow, and she even invited me to bring my team in, Irma said she’d love to host my party of 60.

What really sealed it for me was her professionalism. She gave me a clean, easy-to-read quote, with everything clearly laid out. And even though they don’t normally offer delivery, she made an exception and made it happen, and that made the entire order feel effortless.

And let’s talk about the food: it was an absolute hit. My team loved it. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and top-tier, great food and great service.

If you’re ever in Lake City, Florida, and you want amazing Mexican food, or you need catering done the right way, El Potro is the spot.

My husband loved their buffet! I ordered a meal from the menu and the waitress came back to let me know it had flour in it. She was very helpful in finding a grain- free alternative meal. It was delicious!

I ordered carnitas a container to feed 10 people for a work party. I was charged $87 dollars. When I opened the containers they gave me a very small portion of carnitas to feed maybe 4 people. Everyone was in shock. Then they gave a container with plantains the container had literally 10 plantains. I didn’t order the plantains. They gave me one container with plantains instead of the carnitas. That was unbelievable. They completely robbed me. They lied to me and they robbed me $87 dollars. I’m so upset. Then the one container to 4 people had burned carnitas it means (meets.) The meat was overcooked and hard. I don’t recommend this place to anybody. What they did to me was terrible. Don’t let the Steal your money. 😔🌎💔

Yes, chips and salsa come with the order! and my personal favorite things are Chicken Fajitas, Taco Salad, Enchiladas when I order off the menu. But they have the best buffet in America on Sunday! Everything you can think of on that buffet, tacos, tacquitos, nachos, fajitas, salad, eggs if you want breakfast!, soups, refried beans and rice and salsa fresca and much more. I want to eat some of everything! A great restaurant with super nice owners and servers who speak both english and spanish fluently and the service is excellent. You should know I have been going here for 30 years about once every two weeks because i live 20 miles away or I would go more. Sometimes i go for lunch or sometimes dinner, and the Sunday buffet is mid-day. When I go with family we sit in the back which is a separate room that accomodates large groups also.

Decore is a bit dated but gives a very home vibe that I liked. Our food was very good, well seasoned, very generous pirtions and came pretty quickly. Would reccomend giving them try.

This place is a vibrant slice of Mexico! The atmosphere is lively, and the food is incredible – bursting with authentic flavors. I had the enchiladas, and they were smothered in a rich, savory sauce. The service was top-notch; our server was friendly and really knew the menu. The margaritas were the perfect mix of sweet and tangy.

It's more than just a meal; it's a whole experience. You can tell the staff loves what they do.

Definitely a must-visit for anyone craving real Mexican cuisine!

El Potros has been my families go to restaurant for years!! Maritza is one of the best waitresses but no matter which server we have the food is always fresh and delicious!
