Best place ever !!
Disappointed at best. Had always heard about this unique little restaurant, that you have to take a boat ride to with the best seafood. Went for the first dinner sitting at 5:30 on a Sunday. This worked well and we were able to park close to the dock. Shot wait for the ferry that takes you to the restaurant. Boat captain was very good and very polite. Short boat ride takes you to the restaurant located across the street from the boat dock. Building was old Florida style with many old photos hanging on the walls. Our boat ride was with two other small parties of people. We were quickly seated and the wait staff was ready to serve. Thought it odd that they sat us at the first three tables and did not spread us out. Acoustics made it feel like the people at the next table were sitting with you; made it distracting at times.
Service was very good, wait staff was right there to take your beverage and appetizer order. Came back with our cocktails and a hot bread basket containing one roll per person. Nice and hot, soft on the inside and really nice flavor. Calamari app came out quickly lightly breaded, very tender with really good flavor. We both ordered seafood platter and asked for it to be broiled. When it came out it appeared to have been cooked on a flattop grill and was way overcooked. Shrimp were large but cooked till they were hard and you could have bounced them off the floor. Scallops also large and very overcooked had to use a knife to cut; also came with a fish filet that had been filleted to pieces maybe 1/8 an inch thick as nd when cooked they were like cardboard. The seafood had no taste and was chewy. The vegetable medley also had no flavor. The food was mediocre at best and only because the bread and calamari tasted good. For two of us with 1 drink the meal was about $150 after tip. Way overpriced for the quality.
Best I can say is I always wanted to go there because of their reputation but now all I want to say is I literally checked it off my bucket list.
The service was very good (waitress and bartender at the bar were great!), the ride there was different (short boat ride), the place is unique, but smells like mold, dampness, and wet wood, etc. The maitre'd (Maybe owner or family of owner) was abnoxious, rude and uninviting. We were celebrating a retirement and the waitress gave us a few shot glasses to share a bottle someone had given as a gift, and she all but fired the waitress. She was insulting and demeaning. It wasn't her fault, as she was trying to please her customers.
The food was nothing special. Most of it bland (sour cream mashed potatoes, bland... hearts of palms was ok, not great. The famous crab cakes were also OK, maybe because they raged about them so much, my expectations were too high. The ribeye was ok, but not worth almost $70. Sorry, but if I'm going to pay $70 plus for a steak, I would go to Smith and Willinsky, Ruth Chris, Mortons, etc... I tried someone's bacon wrapped scallops, and I don't know how anything wrapped in bacon can taste so bland. The scallops were overcooked (probably when they fried the bacon).
Overall just a cool short boat ride, with good staff... and nothing else.
An institution! This is a MUST visit when in the area. When we have visitors in town we ALWAYS take them to Cap’s Place.
You will not find anything like this in all of South Florida.
Incredible piece of history, the staff is always super friendly and the food is always fresh!
Do not miss any of the seafood specials, the hearts of palm salad and the home made key lime pie.
They always usually have a great cocktail they are mixing up too.
Make sure you get there early to have a drink in the bar next door.
Incredible history has happened here. Don’t miss out. If the walls at Caps Place could talk!
And make sure to look up the directions on where to park your car. You need to take a boat over, which is part of the fun! Call ahead of time if you need special parking for someone in your group. They can accommodate.
I had the best crab cakes I have ever eaten.
Over cooked cold food delivered. Service is very slow maybe that’s why the food is cold. Manager is VERY rude and nasty. Can’t understand how she still has a job, must be related to the owners since it looks like she has been there since the place opened. Best part is the view and boat ride over. This place doesn’t understand customer service.
I hadn't been to Cap's Place in about 25 years and boy has it ever gone down hill! I am now disabled and let me tell you, it is NOT a restaurant to go to if you are handicapped in anyway! Caps is NOT set up for handicapped people! The bathrooms are in another building from where you eat! I had to go through the kitchen to get to the other building that had the bathrooms, because there were no ramps to walk down or up, only stairs to go in and out of the main building where you eat! Because of the age of the buildings, all the floors are uneven and their walk ways outside are too! I pity the person who has too much to drink at Cap's! The worst evening in my life eating their! The mosquitoes were so bad outside and even inside that I left Cap's all bitten up! Our waitress had to bring me ice to stop my itching and swelling from all the bites I got there! To top things off, there were large red ants all over outside too! The owner, Tally, is not a very friendly person and won't answer the restaurant's phone until after 5 PM, if your lucky! It truly was the worst experience in my whole life eating at Cap's and I feel the public should be warned about this restaurant because it needs to be closed down or sold to new owners that will fix it up! Their food was pretty good, but very limited!

Went to the bar on a Friday night to get drinks and appetizers. Told by the bartender that she was too swamped for us to order food even though there were only 4 people at the bar and 1 table of two occupied. After we ordered a drink at the bar, the table of 2 was served a meal. I’ve never been declined service like this at any restaurant. We live close by and won’t be coming back and will advise others not to go. The place has seriously gone down hill in the last few years and the drink/food prices do not match the poor service and quality. What a shame!!

In complete shock at the way management handles business here. I made a reservation for October 6 on September 30. We travelled 50 minutes to get here, on my birthday. When we arrived we waited at the dock like I was instructed to when I made the reservation and after some time of not seeing a boat or any other cars I called the restaurant to find out what was going on. When I called we discovered that they were CLOSED due to the hurricane that is NOT SUPPOSED TO HIT FL UNTIL WEDNESDAY!!!! (It’s SUNDAY!!!!!!). No call, no notification. Nothing. What a way to ruin a birthday and a night out. We will never be giving this restaurant another opportunity and I will be sure to notify everyone of the horrible service!

Great historical location if you're looking for some drinks. Had a classic up north like in Wisconsin or Minnesota camp Lodge. Feel this is your up north woodsy place to go to for a drink! I highly suggest you pass on the meals though! The reason being the meal menu is limited but priced too high for the offerings. Everything was just so so we did some appetizers and they were so so! So pass on the meals they're overpriced. You can get a decent meal in fort Lauderdale pompano or Boca for the same plate charge that they charge you here four just the up north woodsy feel heck no front end lady. The greeter was very rude and shortcomings. They shut the bar down early. Well it was a solo night. We were there with one other couple. It rained a little. My gosh. It rains in Florida everyday. What's the big deal?? The relative that runs the boat to go to the so-called Island that's not an island. You can drive over to the place I don't know. I guess it gives you that 1920s Al Capone BS feeling well. He's not very happy. Probably needs some good antidepressants or to start drinking again. Maybe you should have a bottle of Jack Daniels or Southern comfort on the boat that brings you over? We enjoyed it. When the pompano Beach water taxi would drop us off personally and pick us up then we didn't have to deal with that! Well covid took them out! So if you're looking for a great place to take some visitors or if you haven't been there to get that up north woodsy feel go to the bar. Have some drinks when they open up and then pass on the meal. You can go right across the waterway at the marina and get a meal over price similar to cap's place! Again, I hate to post a negative review or so so review, but I'm telling the truth again for the limited menu. Everything should have a wow factor but when you're out of this item that you wanted or even the appetizers are so so you pass on the main course! Cute place to walk around. Look at the pictures. See the tilting walls, the leaning and sagging parts and the woodsy feel. But that's about it. Spend your money on the drink. Take a hike! Save your money ?

I've been coming to caps for many years but this was the first time in 4 years and alot has changed. We came all the way from South Miami and drove 2hrs. I tried calling to let them know that we were running late. They never answered the phone, so I thought they were super busy. When we got there, there was only one other table being served. All the rest were empty. The waitress Michelle was nice but kind of a space cadets. She talked off all the specials, which took five minutes bc the menu only showed 5 things on there. We had to ask her to repeat it a few times. She did, well r are a full bar and offered us a rum runner. It was ok. However we wanted to have something else and e asked for a blody Mary, she said we don't have the mix. So then we asked for a Moscow mule, no ginger, then a mojito, no mint. So we said them you're not a full bar. She said, we are old school, basically liquor and soda. So we got a margarita, the mix tagged so bad and spoiled. We told her that they we awful. She said awe I'm sorry and never offered to replace with anything and still charged us for a drink that we didn't touch. The steamed vegetables and rice had zero taste. This seafood was decent, it's the best I could say. We told her that we were celebration or anniversary. So when we got the key lime pie, she brought it out and started singing happy birthday. This place has changed and I don't recommend. I will never go back....

Server was terrific! Full of fun stories and historical moments from the Caps Place background. Very knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and attentive.
Food had its memorable, delicious and shining moments like the Crab cakes and the Yellowtail Snapper (ask for lemon and their spicy/creamy dipping sauce to accompany it- game changer). The smashed sweet potato side and their homemade baked rolls are big warm hug and kiss from a great grandma... "Crazy good" as our server slept saying.
Unfortunately, the fried Calamari was not a hit , way undercooked and the mashed potatoes had no flavor. We also did not enjoy the Key lime pie. Atmosphere indoors was full of history but not visually pleasing at all especially to be at this price point.
However, the moonlit boat ride and short stroll to and from restaurant was romantic and unique. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

Historical Bar and Restaurant. The bar is separate from the restaurant and has a bunch of memorabilia from over the years. Wooden floors and ceilings and a Cool vibe. Delicious Snapper that tasted like they just caught it and brought it into cook. Fresh salad and scrumptious rolls with butter. Great views of Intracoastal and Marina.

We were told to get to the boat at 5 and when we arrived we were told to wait 30 minutes. When we arrived we were told to wait in the patio. When we tried pulling the chairs out the manager yelled at us to not move the chairs because they might break. The old feel of the place was cool and the history was interesting but the menu was limited. No vegan options. Chicken was bad, hard to cut, three of my party got the chicken and none of them liked it. Yellow tailed snapper was dry. Only good food was the ribeye. Not worth the money.
