So so good! Had yellowedge grouper tonight and we practically inhaled it!! And topped it off with the key lime pie— only place we eat it because it’s the best!

The food was very good, even for the slightly obscene prices.
However, it was ker down entirely by the service. There was a horrible atmosphere instantly upon entering. My family and I felt like we were being a nuisance. The woman serving us, who seems to be Mrs Walz, was rude, condescending, and extremely slow, at least when it came to serving us and other tourists. She seemed fine with the locals.
When it came time to pay, she seemed to intentionally try and scan the card, which maxed out the attempts and blocked it. I think everyone knows how inconvenient it can be to unblock a card while abroad. We had asked her to stop after the first attempt as we had cash, but she ignored us and seemed very satisfied with what she'd done.
Upon trying to pay with cash, she walked off and began serving other customers, presumably locals. No tip was left. We only had appetisers for 4, which still came to 113 dollars, we were then short-changed, but were so sick of the woman we simply left.
They don't look at reviews, it seems, so they probably do not care. If you are a tourist, avoid at all costs.
A pricey menu should be reflected in the service, not just the food. It was easily the worst dining experience we've had in Florida, don't give these people business.

Food is OK, server makes out its amazing but have eaten all over the world including Key West this is not so special. Servings are small and expensive. Server seems to like certain people and goes over the top with explanations but if your face don't fit...then expect basic info. You would expect these high prices to reflect a certain level of service. Now when you come to pay...be careful..this place blocked 2 of my cards by repeatedly trying to put my payment through and when we asked to split the bill they refused..we ended up getting charge together to pay...the wife of the owner is very rude, made our special day come to an embarrassing end.

Owners wife is extremely rude. She was mad the second we walked in the door. They were out of all entrees one hour after opening? If this place has any hope of staying in business they need a new owner and get rid of the the blonde haired lady
Owners wife is beyond condescending. Felt unwelcomed the second we walked in. Very rude, trashes every other restaurant in John’ Pass. Rude to every customer that walks in. Degrades customers for being “visitors”. Don’t waste your time or money here. Menu is overpriced and selection is zero. She told us we were on drugs and needed to call the police to get help (??).

The grouper menu is the most expensive. I was surprised that it was served on a plastic plate, but the cabbage and rice that came with the grouper were really worth the money. In particular, Deter's Key Lime Pie, with so much key lime in it, is unforgettable. However, the inconvenience is that the nearby parking lot is very expensive at $20 for two hours. Because it was crowded during business hours, we could barely find a seat in a corner.
Parking: The parking space next door is paid parking, $20 for 2 hours.

Saturday evening 9pm. June high season.
Went there to try this famous “local fish”. Place closed with no info on opening or closing times. Likely no longer in business

Food quality has dropped off significantly. The wife of the owner is a rude, condescending, disrespectful, unprofessional pig. Won't be going back and warn anyone visiting to stay away from this place.

This was my 4th visit. Always stop in when at Mad beach. Best fresh seafood. Definitely a little quirky but that’s what makes it special

Top quality, locally sourced seafood! If you’re looking to eat actually local seafood, this is the place. Our host/server, Sue, took her time explaining the menu to us. We got the blackened yellowedge grouper (sourced from the Gulf of Mexico) and grilled pink shrimp (sourced from the FL Keys) and both were amazing! We could easily taste the freshness of the ingredients. To finalize the experience, we had their key lime pie, which is a family recipe from the Keys. Do yourself a favor and eat locally sourced seafood that is prepared with care and attention. Highly recommend this restaurant!

I don’t know how this isn’t a solid five star rating. First trip to St Pete Beach and this is my happy place. I was looking for this all week. Fresh day caught fish prepared right. The grouper here is what I dream of when I think of Florida seafood. Wife had the snapper - equally as good. Poblano crab soup was not like anything I’ve had before and so flavorful and delicious. If you like real, fresh seafood then this is for you. Get here early and enjoy! Don’t sleep on the key lime pie either…
