Herbie's Bar & Chowder House

We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite of dinner in a casual atmosphere. First off, we entered the wrong door and ended up at the bar (we don’t drink). Our server was very friendly though and said we could sit in the bar and order food so we figured that we might as well stay where we were. We ordered the clam chowder, the fish and chips and the redneck Reuben. The clam chowder was good but it went downhill from there. When the entrees arrived, they were served with limp, super-salty, skinny French fries. The “bbq” brisket in the Reuben was dry and an odd color, making us wonder how long it had sat around. The fish and chips were fine but very greasy. All in all, a disappointment given the other reviews here. We felt it was expensive too for what we got.

Barmaiden Elizabeth was fun knowledgable and amazing. Welcoming, professional and exceptional at explaining both craft beer selections and the menu. Herbies lucky to have her.

Fun place for families, with lawn games in the beautiful outdoor eating area. Local live music. Kids enjoyed the BBQ options. Conch and clam chowders were great. Good kids menu.

Wonderful beer selection. Perhaps the best tasting chicken i have ever eaten. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Very laid back atmosphere. Clam Chowder was top notch as well. Brisket cooked well but sliced too thin (generous though).

I go to Herbies all the time and the food is great and the service is also. Definitely a must go spot for food in marathon.

The rumors are true!!! Herbie's is a must if you find yourself on Marathon Key. We loved the Fish & Chips (Mahi) and the Hot Honey Fried Chicken & Waffles. If your lucky, maybe Tanya will be working!!

I have been coming down to Marathon for years and finally made a stop. What the heck took me so long!?!
Just stopped for Beer, Chowder, and Conch Fritters.

The Clam Chowder was outstanding!! I get that virtually everywhere I go. This was easily one of the best. It was was not as rich and thick as some, which I generally prefer. But, it was packed with so much flavor. Lots of clam and just an excellent Chowder. It was so so good. Great flavor. Our waitress mentioned she does a mixture of Conch Chowder and Clam Chowder. At first glance seems like a clash of clans. It was shockingly good. The Conch Chowder is also excellent. If it's your first visit and you can only get 1, then get Clam Chowder. Otherwise, get a bowl of each. They are both worth appreciating separately. Ask for a small bowl and try the combination it is a special treat.

The Conch Fritters actually have Conch. I know that should be obvious, but anyone who enjoys conch fritters knows that most places just serve fritters which clearly have no Conch. These clearly do. The were also excellent. The roulamade dipping sauce was a perfect pairing. Fried to perfection. Can't go wrong with these.

For the beer they have an option of Taster cups. Since they have 40+ craft beers across the spectrum this is a great option to mix and match or nab a full one.

I wish I had ordered more there was a big group that ordered a variety of dished and they all seemed to be enjoying each and were sharing and trying each others.

This place was featured on Guy Fieri 3D. Watching how they make the chicken shows how they care about flavor. They are not slopping crap on the plate. You are getting well thought out full flavored food.

I will definitely be back!

Made it back...
Had the cheese burger n parafries. Dang! Bunless burger over fries topped with beer cheese. It's huge totally shareable or a food coma which ever you prefer.
Had the Wings as well today. There are only 6 wings. Dry rub is great. Wing sauce is great. And homemade Blue cheese.
The table next to us ordered some BBQ and they could not stop talking about how good it was. They also got the poutine fries which looked insane. They demolished it.

This Place is absolutely great! The service is awesome, nice and down to earth people. The waitress gave us multiple recommendations on good beaches. We went back 3 different times for their clam chowder! It's the best we've ever had. We liked it so much, we asked if they could ship it back to PHX. We will make sure to stop by everytime we are in the keys.
