The Rhum House

We visited this restaurant while in Marathon, as it looked quite elegant from the outside. The atmosphere is very nice and inviting. However, we found the food rather disappointing. The lobster pasta lacked flavor, the sauce tasted like canned tomato, and the small lobster pieces were overcooked and not tender. My husband ordered a steak (about 6 oz.) served with a large portion of frozen fries; unfortunately, the meat was very tough, and it cost $58. The catch of the day also seemed to have been previously frozen, and the chicken dish we tried was also quite bland.

The menu itself felt limited with very few options to choose from. In total, we ordered three starters, three main dishes, and five drinks, which came to $440. For the quality, it did not feel like a good value. While the ambiance is lovely, I would suggest improvements in the food quality and menu variety.

Just left this spot for the second time this trip, and it remains, hands down, my husband and I’s favorite restaurant on Marathon (and in the Florida Keys overall!)! We’ve frequented this restaurant a number of times and always received wonderful service, beautiful views, and TOP NOTCH food and drinks!! Would highly recommend! As frequent visitors to Marathon, the surrounding islands and KW - we can’t say enough good things about this place! We love sitting at the bar (phenomenal bartender!), and looking out at the Atlantic - do it!!

My wife and I had an absolutely amazing experience at the Rhum house bar. Jimmy took great care of us and made fantastic drinks. Definitely one of the best old fashioned’s I’ve ever had. The ceviche was delicious!! We will be coming back here.

Great atmosphere!! Gentlemen at the front recommended my husband and I to sit at the bar, and Jimmy was our bartender. Super great and humble guy! Great drinks and recommendations by him. Recommend this place to anyone coming to have a good rink and good food.

Our dinner was delicious, but a few things put our experience at 3 stars. The bar service was very slow to start and the cocktails all came out at different times. When it came time to order entrees, we were told they were out of scallops, which was the dish that half of our party was looking forward to! Then our entrees for the table came out at different times as, which caused some of the party to eat separately.
What saved our dining experience was our excellent server!! Janet took care of our group of 8 and was great! Up beat, fun and attentive and also apologetic for the wait times!
She was a true gem and was the biggest reason we left with smiles on our faces!

Hidden Gem, Excellent drinks, food, and service! Hostess is a bit rude and had an attitude when we asked to sit outside but eventually accommodated the request. Otherwise staff was great and an excellent experience.

My husband and I came here for date night while on vacation. The service, atmosphere, and food were amazing! The rum flight was a fun experience with great tasting, smooth rum. We had the fried octopus for app, catch of the day tempura, and steak. We will definitely go again next time we're here on vacation.

We had high hopes for our evening at the Rhum House and, in many ways, it delivered — but unfortunately, a negative experience at the bar left us disappointed.

We made an 8:30 PM reservation for six, which was the earliest we could get out for a special adults-only night during our family vacation. I had specifically chosen this restaurant because of its great reviews and exciting menu, and we were all genuinely looking forward to it.

The food absolutely lived up to the hype — easily the best we had on our trip. And our server, Olivia, was phenomenal: warm, professional, and impressively knowledgeable. She handled our table with grace and even went the extra mile when answering detailed questions and accommodating drink requests.

The downside came from the bar. After Olivia put in our second round of drinks, we noticed a clear shift in the atmosphere. It turns out last call was at 9 PM — something we weren’t informed of when we were seated. Instead of a simple heads-up or polite explanation, we witnessed the bartender, Brian, acting unprofessionally and with visible frustration toward Olivia. It created a very uncomfortable energy that unfortunately lingered throughout the rest of our evening.

Drinks were slow to arrive, and even simple mixed beverages became a challenge — at one point, Olivia had to go downstairs for ice after Brian had discarded it before our food even arrived. While she continued to provide excellent service, the overall experience was soured by the tension coming from the bar.

This restaurant clearly has a talented kitchen and some truly standout staff, but the guest experience suffers when hospitality isn’t consistent across the board. For a place at this price point, we expected to feel welcomed the entire night — not like we were being hurried out or treated as a burden.

We’d love to come back for the food, but hope to see more attention given to front-of-house professionalism, especially behind the bar.

I emailed the manager with our concerns but never heard back.

Went for happy hour and two of the drinks on the menu they said they couldn't make. (We don't have a blender)The food was meh at best. We ordered the oyster's Rockefeller which is supposed to be served on the half shell and not as a soupy dip. When we brought this to the attention of the server she said there were oysters in the dip. There were not. The atmosphere is beautiful but service and food need help!

Extremely overpriced and the food isn’t even good. My husband ordered scallops which was a special. They served him 3 scallops which he didn’t even enjoy and the cost was $65!
Paying for good food is not a problem for us, but getting ripped off is.
