Honestly I don’t think this place is anything to write home about unfortunately. I had really high hopes! But it’s pretty average. Sandwiches are good, but not great. They could definitely use more toppings (avocado, tomato, better bacon (seemed like the pre cooked stuff you buy at the store)) and there wasn’t anything super interesting or unique, aside from maybe the donut sandwich. We thought about trying the Mac and cheese but even the worker behind the counter said it wasn’t his favorite ?
Overall not a bad experience by any means, they’re solid sandwiches. $25 for 2 is just a bit steep for what you get in my opinion.

Located in the fascinating Wynwood street art area, Fireman Derek’s is the perfect break /rest stop from a neighborhood walk. Our family blissfully enjoyed assorted ice cream flavors and key lime pie. Both young women servers were lovely and helpful. Special thanks to Jada for her recommendations. (Not liking actual banana cream pie, I hesitated at sampling the ice cream version, but…wow!! Amazing!!) Aside from the tempting baked goods and ice cream showcases, the interior is bright, cheerful, comfortable. As the grandmother of a fire fighter, I especially enjoyed reading Derek Kaplan’s story online. Fingers crossed for a return visit to Miami and an asap stop at this shop!
Food was pretty good. I had the peanutbutter cheese cake. No issues. It was expensive-but expected. Service was fast and there was a steady stream of people but not a huge crowd. Probably go again if we go to miam.
I purchased 2 cake slices that were absolutely amazing. Love their deserts I had a gift card. However I was told the gift card was outdated and the new system couldn’t process it. I paid for my cake slices and was told that a manager would get back to me. This was February 18,2023. I am still waiting. Love the bakery disappointed I couldn’t use my gift card ?
I had the BEST experience at the Wynwood location. I pre-ordered a whole red velvet cake - super easy for online process. As I waited, the friendly staff chatted with me and offered plates, utensils, birthday candles, and coffee. Since I was traveling from out of town and had never been to Fireman Derek's, I already had everything (except the coffee.) I was appreciative nonetheless. The store was bright, cheerful, and clean. And the cake was DELICIOUS! Exceeded my already high expectations based on reviews. All 17 people I shared it with raved. Even though I'm not super into dessert, I was kicking myself the next morning for not sneaking off with an extra slice to eat with my morning coffee.

This is a ghost kitchen. Don’t come here expecting an actual place to eat.

Great pies. The key lime and banana crumb pie were great. I would go back again and try other desserts that are there. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. This place came recommended to us.

I cannot get enough of their pies. YUM! A great variety to choose from. Super friendly atmosphere. This place never disappoints.
Awesome cake- delicious chocolate cake and other tasty pastries. Good service and very reasonable value for the money
Decadent, tasty and great service to boot. Some of the best cakes and pies in South Florida along with a good selection of them. Your biggest problem may be deciding which one to get.
I came here after reading about their top rated and award winning pies. As a Miami firefighter, Derek took his pies out of the firehouse and into his own storefront. This location was in Wynwood and located right next to the Lock and Load Museum. Desserts and machine guns in one stop. Inside there was a lot of space for eating and and perusing the wonderful looking pies and cakes. It was clean and bright. Staff was friendly and quick to serve. I had only one purpose and got a slice of the key lime pie. For $8 it was a pretty pricey slice. The graham crust was well proportioned at the right thickness, crumbly and crunchy. The key lime was tart and tangy but I wanted a little more pop when biting into it. Texture was a good consistency and melted in my mouth. Will have to come back and try some of his other choices.
Staple place in Miami. I have been going to the old Wynwood location quite often. The new Wynwood location is terrific and very spacious. The owner and the staff are super friendly, kind, and positive. I love everything they offer. Really, really, good stuff, both sweet or savory. However, my favorite staple is the Guavaberry Pie with vanilla ice cream — spectacular! Rich in guava and berry and the crust is nice and flaky. Not too sweet, not too sour. The NY Style cheesecake is excellent too! The chicken pot pie is the bomb!!! I mean just great stuff overall, with plenty of creative choices. Reasonable prices. A must-go place for Miami, both tourists, and locals!
