El Indio Mexican Restaurant- Melbourne- 1.5 stars "Man has only a thin layer of soil between himself and starvation."--Bard of Cincinnati. And starve you will. This may be the worst Mexican food in the Sunshine State, if not the whole of the US of A. As I looked at the runny, brown glop, not unlike diarrhea that seemed to pass for refried beans in this place, I felt like driving an ice pick through my eye for not demanding recompense for time wasted with this meal. Literally and I mean this most sincerely, Taco Bell has better ingredients and much better flavor. This meal was obviously thrown together with little thought or caring on the part of the cook. Not a single ounce of pride was put into preparing this meal. The meat is the absolute lowest grade possible. The chicken was rubbery and the beef could not be chewed as it mostly consisted of gristle. The rice was hard and undercooked. It looked like it had been sitting out for hours. The guacamole is the pre-made Sysco green sludge that comes in the two quart container. I took my daughter with me because school was out. She ordered a soft taco with ground beef and she refused to eat it! What kid refuses to eat their favorite food in the entire world?? Getting back to my order; the Supreme Fajitas were covered in a red sauce similar in taste and consistency to canned Italian spaghetti sauce. To top it all off there was zero Mexican spice or flavoring in any of the dishes. This place was so bad the complimentary corn chips they serve you were stale. This was an abysmal failure all the way around. At this point you may be wondering where the half a star came from? Well, I decided to exercise option 10 on the guidelines list and award 1/2 a star for service. Our server was prompt, attentive and kind. She was a real gem and kept this whole thing from devolving into a donnybrook. Big Boy says , "Stay away. Far, far away."
It’s just so good! The rolled tacos are amazing and, for a special treat, get the Modittos. Rolled tacos with nacho cheese sauce - I mean - come on! Tostado was a good option if look g for some veggies. We always come here for our first stop and usually another time as well. Yumm!
Great food for lunch and dinner
Great food as always! My husband and I had a taco and taquitos. Delicious! It did not disappoint! I forgot to take a picture of the guys before we ate!
We had a really nice Valentines Day lunch on El Indio's outdoor patio. Chicken fajita burrito hat lots of tender chicken, red, orange and green peppers, plus tomatoes and onions and was huge and delicious. Order it with cheese. The red heart tortilla chips were a fun touch. Their mild red salsa was perfect for me. Try their fruit fountain drinks, the orange tastes like orange julius. Great counter service, following all covid protocols. Off street parking in lot. Love this place.❤
Two College friends recommended El Indio during our visit to San Diego. We arrived at 5pm on Saturday night and it was not crowded at all. The server behind the counter was very cordial and he gave us the lay of the land. We each had a combination platter: #1 for me, 2 cheese enchiladas, Mexican rice, refried beans and a few chips. #2 for hubby: 2 beef enchiladas with rice beans and chips. He also had a Pacifico beer. We did get a small bag of chips to bring home. The service was quick, the portions generous and the food was hot. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Nice place it Was now it is shut down nobody working store is unavailable sir or ma'am.

I have patronized El Indio for 45 years and every time I visit San Diego, El Indio is a must. We held our family reunion in San Diego where El Indio catered our event outdoors on Mission Bay. Working with Mary Santos was a pleasure! She was very pleasant and professional, easy to reach, answered all of our questions, and the spread provided outdoors for our guests was incredible and exactly what we asked for! Food was of high quality, fresh, cooked on site and served by her friendly team. Our thanks to El Indio, Mary and her team for contributing to making our family reunion a huge success!! We will be visiting again soon!
Maybe I was there on an an off night, and even though I’d like to location I like the vibe, I was unimpressed. We had fish tacos and carnitas tacos. The fish tacos were interesting battered fish with coleslaw on top. The refried beans were seemingly from a can and the rice was very bland. The Carnitas so salty it was difficult to eat. Person taking our order was great.I wouldn’t recommend this place and I won’t go back. Go to Blue Waters next door.
We were there Saturday about 1 PM and the place was crowded. Did not take long to order and get food. It was good. The only bathroom there was not good and clean at all. The building was old and not real clean. People were eating inside, outside and getting orders to go. I think every eating place close to the harbor was busy with the locals and tourist. Weather was beautiful when we were there
My whole family loves Mexican food. However, being vegetarian, leaning towards vegan, I am always leery of beans with lard and excessive cheese. All of us were thrilled with the experience! It is not a sit down restaurant. You stand in line to order and they call you when your food is ready. We had spent the day at the beach and also had our German Shepherd so we sat at fixed tiled tables across the lane from the restaurant. Everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and the experience and will definitely return! Loved the potato taquitos, vegetarian tamales, and the Indio burrito with a whole grain tortilla and zucchini. Meat eaters in the group lived theirs too. Fun and tasty experience!
