I celebrated my birthday at Maiz y Agave, and unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. Our reservation was for 8:15 PM, and while some of our party arrived a bit early around 7:45, the hostess was not exactly welcoming. She repeatedly emphasized that the table would be ready at 8:15 and showed little flexibility or courtesy. When 8:15 came and went, we were told the table still wasn't ready without any apology or explanation. A simple heads-up that they were running behind would have made a world of difference. The atmosphere looked impressive, but the service issues continued. The manager seemed more concerned with handling bottles than with guests, and there was visible tension between staff right in front of us. It all felt pretty unprofessional. As for the food, it was just okay. My Baja California fish tacos were decent, but not memorable, and given the hype, I expected a lot more. The real kicker was the birthday part: they didn't sing happy birthday or acknowledge the occasion as promised. They charged a cake cutting fee, which we paid, and only as we were leaving did they chase us down to offer the tres leches and a birthday song. By then, it was too little, too late. In short, while the place is visually appealing, the service and overall experience didn't match. I really hope they can improve their communication and hospitality because right now, I can't recommend it for special occasions.
It was an amazing experience. The food was great and the atmosphere was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and will be going again.
First time visiting the place, the ambiance was extremely nice, very aesthetic. Drinks were fire, highly recommend the Margarita Tamarindo. As for the food, started with the esquite, portion was very little and watery at the bottom. Was missing tajin to add flavor. Caldo de pollo was really good, the Ribeye tacos were great. Cochinta Pibil was missing flavor, tasted bland. Desert was good, no complaints there.
I will be objective, the place is beautiful, good atmosphere, the service very slow, the appetizers arrived earlier than the drinks, the flavors not extraordinary, I will not comment more, very Americanized to my taste, we went to celebrate a birthday, I warned him on OpenTable, I warned the waitress, she told me about the courtesy dessert and I never took anything, they did not sing happy birthday like to another table, disappointment of the service
Overall, it was a nice experience, didn't eat much food, the menu was quite small. Had a couple margaritas and a guacamole. The rooftop was very nice and the server Hubert was great. It would be nice to change up the music. I understand it's a Mexican restaurant but when you're there for a few hours, you can get a little monotonous even for a Tuesday.
I reserved the $100 pp dinner experience for Mascara vs Calaveras, advertised as “front row seats” to the show. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. Since the event was open to the public, crowds blocked our view, and our waiter struggled to reach us. When we complained, management said they couldn't control people. The food may have been good, but we couldn't enjoy the experience. Please improve crowd control and advertising—next time, you're better off just attending the public event.
Dishes smelled like egg and it made my experience unpleasant. The table service was excellent but the food doesn't taste same as before.

Maykell did a great job while she was serving us. She was always aware of our needs. She was always busy, but she was able to attend to everyone at the restaurant with outstanding professionalism. She deserves a raise.
