Top Hog BBQ - Jonesville

Everything our table ordered was awesome! The four pigs and a cow, the ribs, the smoked wings, the bacon wrapped jalapeños! I mean just everything! The bar guests (looked to be mostly regulars) got a little loud and colorful, but were okay folk.

The Poutine was TERRIBLE! The gravy tastes like it came straight from a can. WAY too salty and was still congealed. It was disgusting! The fries were okay, fried okra was bad. The meat on the sandwich was really good. That was the true shining star for the entire meal. My wife also really liked her sandwich. I think it was a Cuban sandwich if I remember correctly. The atmosphere was quite nice. However the tables were very sticky and the floor in the bar area was also very sticky. Otherwise the place looked great and has amazing potential. The service was not good at all! They took our order at the register and there was zero friendly customer service. This was such a shame because the charm of this place could really be sold with the atmosphere and great customer service. Please fix the sides and the gravy along with the customer service and I will be glad to give this place 5 stars!

Parking: Plenty of parking. You just may have to walk a bit to get there.

Ordered takeout via GrubHub Plus. Smoked wings, smoked turkey, brisket, deluxe brisket melt, sides. Food was ready on time and excellent. Smoked turkey beats out 4Rivers, and their smoked chicken wings were both huge and incredibly tender and delicious. Beef brisket was a bit on the dry side and still a far cry from Pearl in Micanopy, but good flavor and of course the sauces more than made up for the dryness. They were good, though Buffalo hot was a bit overwhelmed by their in-house spice blend than Buffalo to me. South Carolina mustard, Top Hog BBQ, and North Carolina vinegar were all delicious complements.

Only problem, whether because GrubHub threw them a curveball or just not paying attention, instead of two each of 4oz turkey and brisket, I got one of each. Feeling the box it was clearly not a full pound, and this isn't the first time Top Hog has missed multiple quantity meats. Nevertheless was able to get a refund through GrubHub with no headache and no trouble to me or having to bug Top Hog's staff. Really love the smoked turkey, but some online menus by GrubHub and other online services not partnered with them don't show the option for ordering the turkey a pound at a time. Might forego online and call in next time to simplify things.

Solid experience overall.

Parking: Curbside parking as well as larger strip mall parking lot. Spaces are relatively narrow.

Easily one of the better barbecue places around Gainesville. Of course I can hold and eat here when my wife is out of town, because she’s a vegetarian and they don’t have much for a vegetarian obviously.

The food that i ate was very taste, well made, and properly heated. II rated 4 for the atmosphere ONLY because it can be difficult to converse.

Vegetarian options: Besides meat obviously did her, there are various side dishes that can be eaten.

Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free (of which I am): The dishes and sides in the menu are clearly marked GF.... and wow, most of it is GF! For me and others with Celiac's Disease, gluten sensitivityies, or just choosing not to eat wheat ( barely, rye), this is a HUGE bonus!!!!

Parking: This establishment is located in a shopping center.

Kid-friendliness: I don't recall if beer or wine is served here; otherwise, children who like BarBQ will enjoy the food.

This is a decent bbq joint. Typical experience: overpriced for average bbq. I'm not complaining about the food. It meets expectations: good enough to take my money. Nothing is particularly impressive. I would rate the restaurant 4 stars under normal circumstances.

But I'm giving it a 1-star review. I ONLY order here as take out. I'm a busy person, i like to call in an order while I'm driving there, and it's usually ready when I arrive. Last time i tried this, i apparently wasn't heard on the other end. I was hung up on 3 times. Not the employee's fault of course. I was forced to pull over and make an online order. When i picked up my food, i asked about the phone. The young lady carelessly explained, "yeah, the phones are usually messed up and don't work." This makes me suspicious that the owners and management are not prioritizing this issue. So here's a 1 star review to put a fire under the management's ?.

The restaurant at the Oaks Mall had the worst service I’ve ever had there. We finally had to just leave money on the table and go!

Man oh man I was absolutely blown away by the quality and portion sizes of food this place provided. Wish I had one of these by me, fantastic food full of flavor from the reaper burger to the fried okra to the cheese grits to the brisket salad everything here delivers exactly what you'd be expecting in a quality BBQ establishment! Will be returning for sure

The chicken pulled sandwich with original tangy sauce was good. The atmosphere cool and relaxing for lunch on a hot day. Plantains were a surprise side item. Overall good. The brisket skillet seemed to have a very light amount of brisket, so if you want a lot of brisket order it with sides.

Found this place after getting a haircut in the same plaza. Since then, we stopped in again for lunch and both times the food was really tasty and fresh. I got the blackened chicken tenders and my s/o has gotten the chili, wings and hot dog and raved about all three. It’s quiet during the day and the wait was short. We need to stop in for dinner for some ribs and BBQ. Will return!

Parking: It’s a plaza, so there are plenty of spots. Proximity to restaurant likely varies by time of day.

My friend and I were really excited to try the food here since there aren’t many bbq places in Gainesville. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server soon after. We both ordered the brisket but aren’t totally sure that’s what we got. It was super dry and bland. The garlic toast was burnt and the food was cold. The atmosphere was quiet since the live band finished their set and you could hear the kitchen talking. Server was nice but when she came to check on us after we got our food ( we were clearly unhappy) and the server did not seem to notice. Overall we won’t be going back which is super sad because we were so excited to try it.

Our waitress was Wendy and she was absolutely fantastic. The food was big portions and absolutely delicious. The bartender did damn good mixing drinks and all the other staff was extremely polite and made for a wonderful family experience for us. Ten ten will go back again.
