This place has been closed twice in 5 months by the health department, just this year.

At this point not even Gordon Ramsey can fix this location.

Susie Lai Chinese Restaurant, 18305 NE 19th Ave., North Miami Beach: There were 45 total violations, but we think you'll be good with us focusing on just a few. We're going to even skip the flies and roaches, dead and alive, the inspector counted in Susie Lai. Now, let us get out of the way and let the inspection speak. "Observed two rats running along the kitchen floor from the washware area into a hole in the wall by the kitchen back door; observed one rat in the back food storage area; and, as the Inspector is conducting the inspection, one mouse ran from the dining area under the Coca-Cola machine. Observed employee killing one mouse by the coffee station." To continue in this vein..."Observed approximately 500+ rodent droppings found throughout the kitchen, dining, food storage, and bathroom areas." In the breakdown of that Rodent P*** 500, there were "100+ rodent droppings on containers of soy sauces, flour, rice, and sugar in the dry storage area;" "one rodent dropping on the prep table next to a container of sauce used for BBQ ribs, that the chef was using;" "50-plus rodent droppings on shelves that store clean pots and pans." The inspector also noticed, "rodent droppings in all the kitchen handwash sinks," which means they probably aren't used often. Then again, "No soap provided at the handwash sinks; kitchen, prep area, and all bathrooms." Unsurprisingly, Susie Lai didn't pass Friday's re-inspection. There isn't an online record of a passed re-re-inspection.

Shut down by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation for a SEVERE RODENT INFESTATION. Inspector observed LIVE rats and a mouse during inspection. Rodent droppings on FOOD CONTAINERS in dry storage area, shelves, and sinks. No coman aquí. Según los inspectores del Estado de la Florida, hay una infestación severa de roedores.

Absolutely disgusting. The health department has shut this place DOWN! There were 45 total violations, but we think you'll be good with us focusing on just a few. I call this special restaurant often since I love the special air that is unique to this place. The staff is exceptionally helpful and skilfull. The service is remarkablywonderfully efficient. Needless to say, the food you eat is perfect. I ate there more than once and I was always pleased. The rate is honest. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.

Great spot for takeout and delivery, fast service, great portions and really good food, special fried rice, honey garlic chicken, and mongolian beef are a must!

I’m sorry to say it but I won’t be ordering from Susie Lai anymore. This used to be my families and mine one and only go to spot for Chinese food for the last 15+ years. Always had good food, generous portions, reasonable prices and always nicely presented in plastic takeout containers. However ever since they got new owners, it has just been consistently disappointing. Within the last year there’s been a sharp decline in quality, portions and presentation. Prices went up on everything which I understand given the current situation, but by 20-25%? That’s just excessive since the portions have been dramatically reduced and the food just looks unappetizing now. They even stopped using the plastic takeout containers. Last night was the final straw, when my mom picked up a combination dinner for herself after work and I saw the look of disappointment when she opened it up. What she got was 4 pieces of the driest looking spareribs and 2 pieces of overly greasy fried shrimp in a styrofoam container and her side of pork fried rice in a separate box. The egg roll size has also been reduced to the size of a spring roll. I wish I would’ve taken a picture to show how depressing it all looked. If you’re going to spend your hard earned money on takeout after a long day at work, you want to know that you’re getting a good value for your money and that you’re getting something that at least tastes good and looks appetizing. Unfortunately now under the new owners, Susie Lai is none of those things. I can’t justify continuing to spend my money on unappealing food that literally disappoints every time we’ve ordered over the past year and ownership doesn’t seem to care. There’s tons of other Chinese restaurants in the area that are better and will actually put a little effort into getting and keeping your business. Go literally anywhere else for decent Chinese food because this just isn’t it anymore.
