Absolutely Disappointing Experience – No Wonder the Place Was Empty on a Sunday
My wife and I stopped into this local diner hoping for a laid-back Sunday breakfast. The place was completely empty, which in hindsight should have been our first red flag. We sat down, greeted by a server who seemed friendly at first. My wife ordered a simple side of hashbrowns and a side of bacon—nothing complicated or out of the ordinary.
As I was reviewing the menu to order a full breakfast plate for myself, the server abruptly told us that “since the owner is here, you can’t just order sides—you need to order a whole plate.” Apparently, ordering home fries or hashbrowns by themselves is not acceptable to the owner. Seriously?
It’s hard to overstate how ridiculous this policy is. We were seated, ready to order and pay for food, and we were told what we had to order based on some arbitrary internal rule that has nothing to do with the customer’s actual wants or needs. If a business doesn’t want to sell items listed on its own menu as sides, then don’t list them that way. It’s not only bad customer service, it’s just plain bad business.
It honestly felt like we were being policed over breakfast. In a town where diners thrive on being casual, welcoming, and flexible, this kind of attitude is a surefire way to drive people away—and judging by how empty the place was on a Sunday morning, that’s already happening.
We left immediately and won’t be back. There are too many other diners in the area that actually appreciate their customers and understand the basics of hospitality. The food might be decent here, but we’ll never know—because being told how we’re allowed to order is enough to guarantee we won’t return

I went this past weekend with some family and friends and we had a blast! The kids colored and were free to be kids without dirty looks. They catered to our big family needs and made us all feel welcome. It was a first for all of us and we will all be back!
I think it was Karen in the kitchen and Crystal serving tables but they both were all over the place doing everything, talking and joking with us, each other and other customers that seemed to be regulars.
The hash was delicious! We all loved the home fries and the kids tore up their cute little pancakes.
It was so cute inside with little ocean vases and the bathroom was clean! That's rare these days! My daughter spilled a full water and they jumped right on it and told me to sit down and relax because I clean up enough at home!! WHAT!! I may go back everyday! lol
Thanks ladies! See you again soon!

Ignore the naysayers—The Rock is a gem. If there’s a wait, it’s only because the food is worth it.
Everything is made with care, and you can taste the difference.
*Try the corned beef hash—I promise you, it’s not out of a can. It’s the real deal, and it’s delicious.
*The Rock’s salads are gorgeous: fresh greens, colorful toppings, and big enough to share (though you won’t want to).
The vibe is cozy, and they’ve got these cute little vases some kind of beads that change with the seasons. It’s a small touch, but it shows they really put thought into the atmosphere.
Karen and Krystal do a great job running the place. Whether they’re cooking, serving, or handling it all on their own, they keep things moving and make everyone feel taken care of.
If you haven’t been yet, go try it for yourself—you’ll see why people keep coming back. Definitely one of the best spots in Orange City!

Barry disappointed in my experience. Me and a friend showed up for breakfast and as I walked in, I was not even greeted. I asked if I’ve seen myself and she just nodded. I sat there for almost 25 minutes and still no one had even come over to me to ask me if I wanted to water. I sat a little longer and saw someone come out and tell the other table (the only other table there) that they had to make the ingredients for what they wanted and it would take longer. She has an attitude about it and walked back to the kitchen. The waitress came back out and gave them water. I still was ignored so I walked out.
