I went through the drive-thru at lunch time. Very little wait time. Staff was not very personable. The food was disgusting. It was a soppping greasy mess. I ordered the fresco melt with no fresco sauce. I assumed it would be like a Patty melt. The bread was barely toasted and sopping with grease. For my first time experience with steak and shake, it's a No for me.

I rarely eat fast food, but it was 11 PM and I was about to head home and hungry. I ordered a vanilla shake and some fries but said only if they’re hot. The sweet gal said she would make sure they were hot.
I told her I forgot to tell her no whipped cream on the milkshake, so could I have an extra cup to put the whipped cream in? She smiled and said no problem and gave me the extra cup and the super hot fries. They were fantastic and the milkshake was good too. I wish I had gotten her name. I really appreciate the great service.

Steak and Shake is now a self-service kind of place, it seams; at least this location is self-service with kiosks and drink/condiments station. This is good but was a disappointment when we came in after years of doing drive-through only (Covid) and thought it was still table service. The service otherwise was good, but I always had to flag someone down for thing we needed or were missing from the self-service station. I had to ask for ketchup, both pumps were empty, flag someone down for another thing idr, and then again for a to-go box.
I felt like I was interrupting the employees or managers from their primary business.
Also, the self-service drink machines require a QR code from the receipts. I hope this isn’t standard everywhere. It was an odd experience trying to keep track of three codes and filling and refilling my families drinks. The process wasn’t well-explained because one code stopped working per way through our short visit.
There was a changing table in the men’s restroom, but it was crooked and my children would’ve rolled off had I not supported it with my thigh to keep it level. Bathroom overall cleanliness was lacking and I believe the soap was empty.

Well priced and came out quick, the patty was VERY salty but still juicy, the fries are good thinly cut with a nice taste and crisp, the milkshake is good but combined with burger and fries makes you VERY thirsty.

Ordered through drive through and they left the sauce off of both of our garlic burgers. I discovered this when I got home and tried to call to see if this could be fixed in any way. Was on hold for over 10 minutes before anyone even answered the phone. Then I was put on hold for another period of time. Tommy, the manager, put me on a remake list but it took around 15 minutes to get any sort of resolution

I love Steak n Shake on Wells Rd. It's always felt like family. The place is very clean. The employees are very kind and polite. The food is always made fresh and correct. It doesn't get much better than that.

This visit happened Saturday evening between 630 and 730 pm on July 19th 2025. I am not normally one to write a review, but at this point my family and I are still stuck on the horrendous experience we had that I have to say something.
The place was dirty. Bery much so. There was caked pee on the toilets, and multiple roaches in the bathroom for ladies, and the men's had no soap to be seen. Bone dry. ((How does an employee that is required to wash their hands before returning to work accomplish said policy without having any soap at all, I wonder??)) Dust and dirt build up was all over the edges of the floors and not a single table was clean. Im not talking a rush just happened and no one was able to get to it, I am talking about hardened ketchup, soda spills on the chairs and the booths, even sticky nasty build up of God knows what around where they had hats and coloring goods for the kids. It looked like the ordering screens had not been wiped down in days the film was so thick on it. The food was mediocre, but holy salt batman it was intense and not just the fries. There were no cups and the condiments that were openly available were barely usable due to them not being refilled. The people in the back working the grill area - i was shocked, i am safety and compliance where i work and was very upset - there were no hair nets, no gloves, and literally one of the cooks was on his phone while simultaneously making burgers. My boyfriend and I saw people touching their phones and faces, then reaching for burgers to finish preparing them with their bare hands before placing them on our plates to serve to us. We dont know their history, we dont know their cleanliness, we dont know anything aside from they were very ill-prepared to be at work and to work with foods. I am very disappointed because I was excited to share what I thought would be a great experience with my family but very quickly turned into questioning our dinner choices as well as our food preferences for the future. I remember it being clean, crisp, and a great atmosphere. Now it is nothing short of ick and ew in all of the ways possible. Well done switching to beef tallow, however you have much bigger problems to fry than what oils you choose to put your potato sticks in. From my family to the Steak and Shake family, we are saddened and ashamed. Do better.

I gave 5 stars all the while I don't care for shoestring fries, but they were hot so I over looked it. This is my 1st time here so I read the review before coming. One of the comments stated how good the garlic steak burger was, so I took that as a suggestion and that's what I got. It was so delicious, the only thing is the patties were paper thin so I'm glad I got a double meat or else it would've been like McD's kids meal. The young lady at the drive-thru was delightful, servce was great, banger for your bucks. Will definitely be back. I give this visit 👍👍
