Ok if your driving through Astor this is a must stop if you like seafood. You won't come out of there hungry. The class are excellent! Try the full belly fried clams! Make sure you have cash it's cash only

From the outside, it's a quaint small diner in appearance. The parking lot is terrible. Inside is where the magic happens. Seating is tight. I always get a fish basket which never disappoints. So the food is amazing and the staff are wonderful.

A very good restaurant off of 40 very low key some of the best clam bellies I've ever had in my life. The staff was wonderful attentive to your needs. And don't get me started on the Boston cream pie some of the best I've ever had. And you better bring cash because they don't take card.

Having lived in New England for most of my early years-teens, I have experienced the best of the fresh, coastal seafood venues and the Essex is superb! Authentic in every way, except the snowbanks are missing, and I don't miss those at all. You can't find any better New England seafood anywhere else, including coastal New England! Servers are attentive, prompt, courteous and pleasant. It does get packed at times, particularly when the weather is conducive to motorcycle rides, so best to show up early. Outdoor seating is limited and uncovered, so I'd only go that route on a warm, calm, overcast day.

The whole belly clams were excellent as were the onion rings. The portions required a to go plate. Being from New Bedford, Massachusetts you appreciate good seafood when you find it. It's well worth the money and we will be back. Thank you for a wonderful day!

FFirst time here and will definitely be back. Huge portion enough to even take some home. Food came out hot and delicious. Our waitress Sabrina was sweet and very pleasant. We're from NYS and wish we had the quality & quantity this place offers
