St. Augustine, FL. Oh what a divine breakfast we had at Aviles! Shiraz, who greeted us and served us, was so wonderfully warm, quiet and sweet. Just what you need in the morning. We were the second table to be seated.

I tried shakshuka for the first time. It was incredible. And so was Steve’s croissant, omelet, our coffee, and my Cuban toast. Steve took extra long because on top of his croissant he ate my Cuban toast! They put little jars of Dickinson’s preserves on the table with a nob of real butter so of course he slowed down to savor that.

Aviles felt like a bright cocoon in the morning light with the flowers outside the shuttered windows. What a good memory.

Avilés is by far my favorite restaurant to go to! Whether it’s for breakfast or dinner, I know I will be taken care of by the wonderful staff and served the best quality food! An excellent choice for an intimate evening, a celebration dinner or just a casual meal with fine dining flavors! Highly recommended!

We are locals who have been to almost every establishment in St Augustine. Somehow, we have never been to Aviles which is in the lobby of the Hilton on the bay. We decided to stop by for a pre dinner cocktail on a Saturday.

It is a very small bar with perhaps six seats, basically in a hallway but they make it work. There was a room behind us that had some cocktail tables so they can accommodate more people. There were only two people at the bar so we had no problem getting seats. I think a lot of locals overlook Aviles and think of it as a place for just hotel guests. I offer that it is more than that though because it is small, I would not go with a large party.

They had some solid bourbons and important to me, they have gentlemen’s cubes. I had an Angel’s Envy while my adorable wife chose a gin, basil and strawberry concoction which she enjoyed. Our bartender went in the back to get the basil and it certainly appeared fresh. To our pleasant surprise, they offer a Saturday happy hour of a buy one, get one for free from 5-7. As such, if you are looking to get your evening started with a nice buzz, Aviles needs to be a consideration!

Restaurant was difficult to find as it is inside the Hilton. I entered where the sign hung and found myself at the check-in desk. Stopped to ask someone (who turned out to be a restaurant worker) asked him if he know where it was and showed him the name. Long story short, the second person he took me too looked at where I wanted to go and told him it was his restaurant!! The only one in the restaurant and it took a long time for the pricey meal to arrive, it was overcooked. Ambiance was ok. Not going back.

My wife and I stopped in for Breakfast today. The server was very nice and did a good job. She had a mask on which is fine with us, but I would suggest not touching it with your hands and then handling food constantly. We ordered an egg white omelette and ask only a little cheese be put inside. It was flooded with cheese and butter. We should have said no butter, but we didn’t. Just average no imagination breakfast. You expect more from St. Augustine restaurants. On a more positive note, the coffee was great.

Had breakfast and the portions were very large at a great price. Breakfast wrap was delicious and so big I could only eat half of it. My husband had the omelet and said it was great. Would definitely recommend.

Do not go here if you have a gluten allergy. We had breakfast there today and told the server my wife had a gluten allergy. She ordered sausage and potatoes. She saw that the potatoes were cooked in a fryer. She asked if it was a dedicated fryer and was told yes. Turns out after she had a reaction it was not. They said they clean the fryer daily. They made no attempt to rectify the problem and my wife was sick the rest of the day.

Had dinner here with a group of friends the other night and was pleasantly surprised the atmosphere isn't much to speak of however that is well offset by both the service the staff and the cuisine. I had the blue crab cobbler as an appetizer along with toast points it was quite tasty. The beef short rib Ragu is also outstanding. Other dishes that rank right up there are the paella, the frenched chicken, the filet and the rigatoni. Seems you can't go wrong here. The wait staff is friendly attentive courteous and always Johnny-on-the-spot. Try it I think you'll like it.UPDATED: 7/22/22. They now have an extensive steak menu that rivals any fine steakhouse although you best prepare yourself for the increased prices.UPDATED 1/23/24. Ordered the pork chop and while I asked for medium rare it leaned A LOT more towards rare had a significant amount sinew, grizzle and fat and was quite difficult to cut. Not my best meal here. They also seemed to be a bit understaffed as one waiter was handling all the tables. He was a nice enough guy, quite pleasant, however I had to get up and go to the bar to get a refill cocktail & we also ran out of water.

We were going to eat here to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We did not realize this was just a small restaurant part of the hotel lobby. Upon arrival we were nicely greeted and sat at our reserved table. But shortly after we realized this was not the ambience we were hoping for, especially for a fine dining experience. My boyfriend and I love to fine dine. The server passed us off to the bartender after greeting us so he could go home. Then when the bartender came over we kindly let him know we were going to leave. No reason necessary. He immediately suggests that we could get the family style meals to share. Seemingly assuming we could not afford to eat there and that’s why we were leaving. A little unprofessional for a high end place. Not sure we will ever try this restaurant.

Went for Christmas buffet for 6pm seating. Choices were good but Hot food wasn't hot, service was good. Got flat soda but they replaced that. They had prime rib, turkey and lamb. It would have been nicer to have a carving station. 25% tip added to the bill for a buffet is a bit high. Some of the food tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day. I expected better for the price we paid.
