Café Del Hidalgo- Ice Cream, Food, And Drink

It's incredible how the staff is not trained just to inform that they charge a little more for paying by card, you ask the one who attends you and he answers that the coffee is well priced and that if he wanted he would give it to me, when I only asked him why he charged me more and the price on the menu did not match with what he charged me, they got stressed everything and had to call the boss so that the boss could explain something so simple to me, the 2 people at the bar are not trained to work in the face of the pu olivo and less under stress

Food was meh, employees really need to work getting along with each other, one guy (near the icecream) tells me to go to the next cashier, then the other lady (near the bar) is like yeah we don't take orders here. She finally agreed to take my order and rolling her eyes every time I asked for something, then she couldn't figure out how to use the tablet and kept rolling her eyes complaining she shouldn't have to be taking my order. Honestly right there my review went down to 1 star and should've walk away. Then this older guy very friendly pushed her away and took my order while been very friendly. (Up to 3 stars now).

Price would be normal compared to other places nearby and understanding this is a tourist area BUT after the unlimited rolling eyes and bad attitude from that lady near the bar, even if it was free it would be too expensive.

One more thing, apparently they only can do 1 crepe at the time, we ordered 3 and it took for ever, we received 1 at the time and by the time the 3rd one showed up everyone else was done eating.

Long story short... you'll better going the the waffle place a few ft from here.

I do not recommend this establishment. They were not busy and 40 minutes into waiting for a sandwich I said I was leaving. I placed 10 bucks on the table and left. A person came immediately after me asking for pay and I said I put it on the table. She said in Cuban Spanish how do I know the bill….fact is I left a tip because I didn’t care about change….

As soon as we walked in, no one attended to us. After a few minutes, we sat at a table with very stained chairs and a waiter told us that the restaurant was already closed and that they only had coffee and ice cream. After a few more minutes, we realized that we had to order directly at the counter, which the waiter who initially attended us never mentioned. They have no idea how to prepare a good coffee. We ordered one with caramel and vanilla, and it tasted like watered-down coffee. Very bad service. While we were waiting for our drinks to be prepared, many people came in and, after not receiving any attention, left. I do not recommend it.

This place is a total joke. They don’t speak English had to tell my order four different times and they don’t know how to make a milkshake. They just put a bunch of milk and very little ice cream 10 bucks for basically nothing. Don’t waste your time here and there are plenty of other options. I just happen to go to the worst one

This was on 12/12/2025 The place look nice and cozy, not to many people inside. Sat down at a table looked at the menu waiting for the server to come to the table and not one server came to the table. Went to the counter and there were 3 workers there, they all looked at me and just stood there. Went back to the table and after a few minutes went back up to the counter and placed an order to go. I purchased the New Yorker and it was not something to brag about. Lousy sandwich and lousy server. Went to Bull and Crown afterwards and the service was 10 times better and the burger was delicious

I love mom & pops businesses. They are the soul of a charming town. Large Corporate plazas and malls with chain establishments are soulless and part of systematic consumrism.
During the christmas lighting event it was extremely crowded, like a can of sardines. Im talking less than a foot of personal space.
Anyway, everything looked homemade. Unfortunately I don't like American or Italian ice cream. Its just way too sweet. My kids enjoyed though. Licked up every drop.

The gelato was horrible! I never had bad gelato, but this was not worth the $6 for a tiny cup. I guess we've been spoiled

The service was quick and the food was delicious. Its pet friendly too and the owners let our dog sit inside instead of the patio because it was hot! Highly recommend.

Although their sign and information on yelp says that they are open until 10:00 PM, they closed at about 8:19 PM and would not allow us to come in and place an order for some gelato, with people still inside.
Will definitely not go back and spend money with them.

Best Gelato in town!!

Every year we come to St Augustine. Clearly it’s changed over the years, not necessarily for the better. However, Cafe de Hidalgo is always my go to. Their gelato is amazing! I’ve tried many flavors, Amaretto is the best! The food is also good if you’re looking for a nice little place to grab a sandwich and a drink.

The best crepes ever! Savory and sweet are both just as good. Way better than the crepe place down the street. Good food and service. Definitely try them out!

Nice little spot in the middle of george street. Open air but cool inside. Great coffee. I did not try the food I was looking for cuban food. Pet friendly
