Best Spanish/Cuban restaurant in St Augustine! Huge place but almost always needs a reservation so plan ahead!

If you haven't tried The Columbia in St.Augustin, you really need to. Possibly the best dining in old Town. You really can't go wrong. Do yourself a favor and order a pitcher of sangria, and some black bean cakes. Highly recommended.

I visited the St. Augustine location on 9/13 while visiting the area, and was extremely disappointed with not only the quality of the food but also the service. The Columbia used to be a charming and classy place where you could get great authentic Cuban food, but it appears that is no more! I ordered the Boliche and it was horrible! The rice tasted like it was from an Uncle Ben’s box, the black beans tasted like they had been brought in from the local TropiGrill fast food restaurant, and the meat was tough and flavorless. Worst Cuban meal I have ever had! The service was pretty weak as well. It look a while for us to get our drinks, then another while to get the bread. When the food finally got there, I noticed that there were chopped raw onions on top of the black beans. I apologized to the woman (not our waitress) who brought out the food for not knowing there would be onions on there and told her I could not have it. She indicated they would “make me a fresh dish”, and returned less than 5min later with the same dish where it was visible that the onions (most of them) had been picked out. Our waitress checked on us maybe once and never offered to refill our drinks. As I left, I spoke to the manager and told him of my unpleasant visit. His response, “we value your feedback”. Well, I value my money and where I spend it and I definitely will not be coming back! My advice, maybe go for drinks and the atmosphere but do yourself a favor and don’t bother spending your money on food that doesn’t even resemble Cuban food!

We have been coming here for many years, more than 20. The food was great, then not so great, great again, but this time we are back to the not so good. Fish was over cooked, hard crusted, and dry. Manager and server were great! Next time we will try something else.

This is an excellent restaurant. The ambiance, the history of the restaurant and its decor, the authentic Spanish food, the service. Our server Miguel was top tier! The sangria was not too sweet, prepared table-side. We got the crab croquettes, Cuban sandwich and the famous 1905 Salad (also prepared table-side). All excellent. We even took home some hot sauce and a cigar ash tray from the gift shop! Wonderful experience!!!!
