I have been a few times when I am in town. The famous shrimp platter is what I have gotten each time. We had a 45 minute wait at 7pm. Service was quick once we got seated. Food was excellent as before.

O'Steen's Restaurant in St. Augustine is a lot like John C. Reilly, that beloved character actor everyone adores but who never quite steals the spotlight as the flashy lead. It's not some glitzy, over-the-top chain with reservations and credit card machines—no, it's the unpretentious, no-frills spot that's been reliably delivering perfection since 1965, with its lightly breaded, perfectly fried shrimp that locals and visitors rave about as the best they've ever had, paired with homestyle sides and hushpuppies worth lining up for. Like Reilly popping up in films with his warm, authentic charm and spot-on timing—making everything better without ever demanding the marquee—O'Steen's quietly elevates any trip to town, leaving you satisfied, smiling, and already planning your return, cash in hand.

Every table here has the fried local shrimp, which have something like a cross between a tempura and cornmeal batter. They are great. Sides are also very solid.

Great food and service! I’m always a little iffy when trying out restaurants in a tourist town, but O’steen’s did not disappoint. Our server Jess was also the best! I don’t think there was a moment where I didn’t have a full cup, she knew the menu very well, and made sure to check on us despite working a packed house.
Out of the mains we tried, the braised scallops were my favorite and really delivered on a fresh flavorful scallop. Their hush puppies are a bit unique. Definitely more on the savory-side which was different for us NC folk, but still really good! Now I’m not trying to sound like some health nut, but the veggies here are beyond good and a must try. Their cucumber salad is so tart, sweet, and really addicting. I’m still thinking about it a month later. For dessert, we had an excellent coconut cream pie.
O’Steen’s is definitely a must try and are looking for a well-rounded meal with an authentic seafood experience. The restaurant itself is small so be sure to get there early if you've got a bigger party!

It's kind of a one trick pony, but that trick is a good one.
