Run down, very hot inside, dirty floors, dirty tables. Wasn't impressed. We weren't comfortable after seeing the condition of the place, no idea where the great reviews come from.

My boyfriend and I have been here multiple times and have loved it, but the service has gone downhill drastically. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with service at a restaurant. From the moment we entered, we weren’t greeted or seated for at least 5 minutes (there were maybe 2-3 other tables in the entire restaurant). When we finally got drinks and ordered an appetizer after waiting another 15 or so minutes, our appetizer was brought to us without plates or napkins/utensils, which I politely asked if we could get. 15 minutes went by with no sign of our server, after which my boyfriend finally got up to track our server down and ask if we could get the plates we asked for (after receiving a sarcastic “I guess so” when I asked if we could get plates the first time). After placing our order for our tacos, we didn’t see another server for at least 30 minutes, at which point we decided to cancel our order (that I don’t believe was ever actually put in to begin with) and leave. My boyfriend has worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years as a server, in the kitchen, and as a general manager and is baffled at the service we (did not) receive. I can understand being short staffed and not having enough help, but there were 5 tables the entire time we were there with 2 servers who could care less about providing good service. Super bummed because I used to love this place, but we will not be coming back.

Decent food, not great. The burrito i had was cold in the center and not great? Staff is distracted .. I have tried this cute little place 3 times and still have not found a dish i really like! On the bright side they have a great patio in the back and they have Tuesday date night and wed 1/2 off bottles of wine!

We had tacos, selected from a large variety. We tried 5 different types - all very good. Here's the best part. During their daily happy hour the $6 tacos are $2.50 and Coronas are $2.50. Where else can you get a deal like that? Very pleased.

This local Tex Mex place has interesting did options, especially if you're adventurous. I am a bit of a picky eater, so I was looking for a place I could get something meatless and sans avocado. Their bowls fit the bill and my meal was okay. Nothing to write home about, but a good option for noon-locals. The table next to me ordered about five different kinds of tacos, so I assume they are very good. Another plus: this place has a free parking lot. A number of places this close to the historic district do not.

We came in only 20 minutes before close and they were so gracious and kind about it, it really made our night. Super cute place with a ton of character. I had the mahi tacos which were amazing and the sweet potato side was delicious too, my mouth is watering remembering it. Plus they had a ton of wines and I had one of my favorites Mark West. We sat on the porch rocking chairs watching the sun set after we ate. Great night, great experience, we loved this place!

Key West Ahi Tacos so flavorful and fresh. J*** Chicken pineapple quesadilla incredible. Black beans and rice are bland. Sweet potato with chimichurri looked really good

I wanted to love this place. Quaint and cozy house converted to a restaurant. Loved that part but both of us really were not impressed with the flavor and quality of the food. Bland, dry, some overcooked. Will comeback since I am hopeful it was just an off day.

This place pleasantly surprised me. I ordered their chimichurri quesadilla and omg, delish!! I will be back and bringing the rest of the family. My husband and I tried their homemade mango cheesecake and it was awesome. I have very few restaurants that I like in the city and you guys and gals made my list. See you again!

I joined three others there and they liked the food and service. I thought both food and service were passable but not someplace I would choose in place of other local places I feel are worth a return trip. That's why I have not responded to your numerous ticklers about this provider. I may have ordered the wrong item, or maybe my expectations from a server were unrealistic. I admit being harsh on providers who cross the line, food, service, charges or cuisine. This provider did not. My opinion should not reflect that the Cafe did.

My wife and I went to Back 40 and we love it! We tried the steak quesadilla and the chips and salsa. Everything was perfect! I highly recommend this place if anybody goes to St. Augustine .

Food was good. Vibe was depressing. I ordered a lemonade that tasted funny so I sent it back and just got water, it was still on my bill. We won’t be going back.

Had a late lunch, early dinner. There is a nice outside eating area but we opted for inside. The house had been renovated and there were seating areas in a few of the rooms. Colorful art on the walls and the food was really great. We were there for happy hour so we chose to get tacos, carribean j*** chicken, steak, and fish tacos all were great. The salsa was also good. Beer selection had local Florida craft brews as well. Definitely will dine at Back 40 again.

Wide variety of items on menu. I have veggie chili w rotini. Delicious! Husband had bowl w rice, beans, avocado and grilled chicken. He loved it ! Their homemade datil hot sauce is awesome. We even bought some to take home. Outside of restaurant a little off putting but don’t miss if you are in the area ! We will be back.

I was not expecting much but this place exceeded my expectations! It was off the beaten path! The food was SO good! It’s the small little tucked away places that End up tasting so good!
