The Backyard at Meehan's

We accidentally discovered The Backyard at Meehan's during the Trolly Tour of St. Augustine. It's very casual, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We had lunch: clam chowder, bacon cheeseburger and conch salad - everything was really good. We were happily surprised because we didn't know anything about the place before seeing it on the tour. There is a bar available if you're interested, we didn't partake,so have no opinions. Our Server was friendly, gave recommendations, and took really good care of us. Food was yummy and moderately priced.

Kelly is without a doubt the most rude, unprofessional, and flat-out unpleasant bartender I’ve ever encountered. Her attitude is toxic, her service is nonexistent, and she clearly has no interest in treating customers with even basic respect. What’s worse management knows about it and does absolutely nothing. The manager was made aware and couldn’t have cared less. That says everything you need to know about how this place is run. Steer clear if you value decent service or basic hospitality.

Great place to eat and hang out. My husband and I just loved it! And service was fast and nice. The atmosphere was great. Overall, one of our favorite places we had dinner at and would come back. Keep it up Backyard! You had two very happy customers.

Really enjoyed this spot! You definitely feel chill backyard vibes from St. Augustine. Although our food took a bit longer that we expected, once we ate it was delicious! Good spot to come have a drink and relax if you’re not busy.

My husband & friend had beverages. The waitress was totally uninterested in serving us. It appeared since we didn’t order food, she rarely refilled our ice teas. We managed to get 1 refill. If you aren’t eating, expect an attitude from this one.🙄

great little spot to listen to music, have a drink &/or a bite to eat and listen to live music. Be forewarned, it can get crowded, (it's small) and is often standing room only

A group of us (10 people) tried to go here tonight- most have already been here before- it’s Saturday night so they of course had a person checking ID’s and decided to turn me away saying word for word:

“It’s 23 and up, there’s been too many fakes.”

Those in our group that have been here obviously were dumbfounded and asked when was that rule put in place and:

“They just started the rule yesterday.”

We thought the guy was messing with us being that I’m 22(close to 23), handed him my CDL and I guess he just decided me out of all 10 people conveniently couldn’t go in so we gladly left taking our business elsewhere.

If he for some reason had suspicions on if my ID was fake I would’ve had no problem giving another form. But making up a very specific rule on the spot to turn only myself away is a little ridiculous.

The Backyard at Meehan’s is a great place to grab lunch in St. Augustine. It’s got a cool outdoor atmosphere and they are pet-friendly so if you’re visiting with your fur baby, be sure and stop here! Try the Tommy Dolan if you’re in the mood for a great bacon cheeseburger. If you’re looking for some Irish fare, you can’t go wrong with the fish and chips. It’s very close to Castillo de San Marcos as well as the popular St. George Street. Do the fort in the morning, grab lunch at The Backyard, then do some shopping on St. George in the afternoon. Just be aware that parking can be very difficult to find close by. If you can’t grab a spot on the street or at the fort, try the Historic Downtown Parking Garage.
