I have been going here for the past 25 years. Everyone has their favorites mine is the tofu scramble with 2 yeast dressings a red zinger tea then for desert a couple of sesame candies. My husband loves the tuna with a side of hummus. They used to sell a cook book with a few recipes which I still have but it never comes out the same when they cook it. By far my #1 healthy breakfast/lunch spot in town!

Is this a joke? Its NOT even close to being a vegan place or a vegetarian place.
Almost every item has animal products such as eggs, chicken, turkey or fish & cows milk.
No vegan egg substituttions. No vegan deli meat substitutes. Adding tofu & hummus to a menu does not make you a vegan restaurant! Only one type of vegan cheddar shredded & they put such a tiny amount on my bagel (swapped out the chicken egg) that im not even sure it was in there or if that was the sweet potato. Ill never know. Why do I have to even ask for substitutions in a place claiming to be vegan! The menu should be vegan first & foremost & meat eaters swap out, which really doesnt qualify as a vegan restaurant by definition but it would at least make some sense.

The only vegan options I found were a few tofu items & hummus. Pretty much any restaurant has that.

Service - Zero. Waitress never once came by to check on us after dropping off food.
No checks. You have to ask then they tell you to go to cashier & she rings up whatever she thinks you had i guess. Kinda weird.

Seating - not comfortable & it was freezing in there. We had to leave quickly.

Hello to the manatee Cafe and j a y. In 2004 I moved from Jacksonville to St Augustine to start my culinary career at First Coast Technical College just down the street on Collins Avenue.
The food coming out of the manatee Cafe was stellar A+ food.
I graduated with honors and an A+ student. I am the gentleman that got into the accident on State Road 16 because of a texting driver. And that was several years ago.
But I am doing well and hoping to make it back to St Augustine to taste some of the wonderful food at Manatee Cafe.
Keep up the good work Jay.

Amazingggg vegan food! (And also “regular” stuff for the non-vegans.) Spelt pancakes = unbelievable!!! Such lovely employees - Rachel was such a delight - so kind, patient, and gracious. Thanks for an incredible meal as we were passing through.

Maybe I went on a bad day. Let me say I'm vegan and have been for well over a decade. It's sometimes, no down right difficult to find vegan pancakes. When I read the reviews saying they were the best etc...I had to visit. Sad to say I was disappointed. The pancakes had no flavor. I hD much appreciation for the vegan butter but adding this didn't help or the syrup. I was missing a hint of sweetness or maybe some cinnamon, just taste bland. IDK, but that wasn't it. Maybe I'll try their lunch items.

Another 5 star experience. This little café is cutely themed around manatees and has a lot of fun and unique decor.

Upon entering were always greeted with a smile! The coffee is good and hot and food is really good! I got the breakfast burrito and I was skeptical at first but the flavors are great together and I normally do not like avocado. I also got fruit as my side and I had plenty of food leftover as well! FYI the fruit is cut into the perfect bite sized pieces.

The prices for the quality of food is great, definitely you can make it a habit to eat breakfast or lunch here daily. I mean, not too many places have low prices and give plenty of food to have leftovers. This place is a gem and wish it was closer to Jacksonville. If your visiting town stopping here for food is a great choice!

Rachel is the best and the food is so good. Quaint but spacious the food comes out hot and fresh and the wait is never long. If you’re in the area treat yourself and get a good meal. Gluten and vegan friendly as well!
