I went to eat here Saturday night and at 5:00 they were already out of so many items that we just left. I decided to give it another try today with a to-go order, but was really disappointed. The brisket was extremely dry, tasteless, and tough—it was difficult to even pull apart with my fingers. At $28 a pound, this was a big letdown.
On top of that, I asked for two extra mustard sauces with my order and didn’t realize until later that I was charged 50¢ per sauce. I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra if that’s standard everywhere, but it feels silly when you can have unlimited sauce dining in the restaurant but get “rationed” when ordering to-go. It's logical for two people to share a pound of meat. My husband and I both wanted a sweet sauce, as well as a mustard sauce. You have to pay for extra since it only comes with 3 sauces if you both want more than one sauce. In addition they did not mention they were charging me extra, just happen to see it on the receipt. You can't even have 2 sauces to yourself after paying $28 for a pound if meat 😳 Lobster ain't even that expensive!
I ordered a quart of regular coleslaw.
Unfortunately, it looks like they gave me their datil slaw, instead of what I ordered. It's spicy, not what I order and I don't like spicy anything.
Overall, the food was poor, the pricing didn’t feel justified, and the extra charges left a bad taste in my mouth. This place is definitely overrated.

Restaurantji Recommends
I was visiting my brother and he treated me to lunch at Woodpeckers. The Brisket was the best I ever had. He recommended the datil bbq beans and they did not disappoint. The staff was great and the food came out quickly. PS the Mac n Cheese was tasty as well.

Solid regional barbecue restaurant. Have a locally grown pepper giving spice to certain dishes. Have option for lean or fatty on several of main meats. Drinks already served in a 'to go' cup. This place has excellent food. And the datil bake beans are no where near a standard. Service is always on point. This restaurant is one of my favorite barbecue restaurants.

I wasted 8 years before stopping into Woodpeckers! When we moved here in 2016 we saw this unassuming restaurant while taking a drive. We live about 30 minutes away. Over the years, kept driving by. One day we finally stopped.... We've been back 5 times this month.
BEST BBQ in the area, hands down.
Brisket, amazing
Ribs, the rub they use is fantastic
Sausage, datil is my go to
Pulled pork, can't go wrong
Plenty of sides. Love the datil baked beans and mac & cheese.
Tons of sauces, great little deserts (cobbler is great).
Service: Attentive, kind, and funny.
Price: Very solid for BBQ.
Highly recommend!
Caution: If you go later in the day (and they close at 7PM EST), they WILL be out of items. There is a list on the chalk board of what has been 86'd (all gone).

Amazing food went the other week and now can't stop going food is the best BBQ around price is very good with what they give you!
We heard so many positive comments over the past 8+ yrs years. We finally passed during a time we were hungry. I think our expectations were too high. Did Not enjoy our meal. It was over cooked, dry and way over priced. Maybe it was an off day, but Not planning on stopping again.
Butt Hut in Murry Hill is So much better.
