We ordered the “pound” of steamed/broiled shrimp, which quickly turned into a full-blown seafood drama saga.

For context, we regularly order broiled shrimp at Catfish Place, where a pound of shrimp usually lands somewhere around 18–24 shrimp depending on size. Pretty standard. I’ve been ordering shrimp in restaurants my entire life, and that range seems to be the industry norm.

So imagine our surprise when our “pound” arrives and… it’s 11 shrimp. Not 18. Not 24. Eleven. At that point it felt less like a pound of shrimp and more like a shrimp sampler.

We mention it, and a manager comes to the table carrying a scale, which is already a bold move. She weighs the shrimp and proudly announces it’s .9. As in, 9 ounces. For reference, a pound is 16 ounces, so unless the restaurant has recently adopted a new experimental math system, we were still missing a decent portion of shrimp.

The confidence required to bring a scale to the table to prove yourself right, while being objectively wrong, is honestly impressive.

Then the explanations began evolving in real time,
First it was “we used to offer half-pound portions, so that’s how they’re bagged.”
Then it was “it’s the type of shrimp we use now.”

So now we’re on Excuse #2 for why the pound of shrimp appears to be roughly half a pound.

Eventually we do get the rest of the shrimp. Case closed, right? Of course not.

After the meal, just when peace had returned to the table, the manager comes back to inform us that the original portion was actually correct because they weigh the shrimp frozen when portioning them.

And then, because apparently this was now a courtroom drama, she brings out a bowl of large frozen shrimp covered in ice and puts them on a scale at the table to demonstrate that it equals a pound. Raw, frozen, ice-covered shrimp. Tableside.

I understand weighing food raw in a kitchen. Totally normal.
But weighing it frozen with ice, then presenting it as evidence during dinner service because you refuse to lose the shrimp argument, that’s a new level of commitment.

Anyway, if you want steamed or broiled shrimp, just go to Catfish Place. They’ll give you an actual pound, and significantly less courtroom theatrics.

And before they come commenting saying they comped the shrimp meal, keep in mind it took 3 stories before we got to the real reason the shrimp was less than a pound.

Let me edit to add: a scale was never requested. I simply said if you were to weigh that it wouldn’t be a pound. And I was right.

Also: weighing food raw - yes, correct, standard practice.

Weighing food covered in ice - no, wrong. Not standard practice.

It’s also best practice to thaw the shrimp before boiling to avoid that rubbery taste. Since it’s your first day in the restaurant industry, hope this helps!

These 5 star reviews HAVE GOT TO BE PAID FOR. I've always wondered how this place stayed open and it wasn't until I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for my kids class to get out that I saw exactly how. Beer bellies rolling in at 11am on the dot, that and construction workers that walk over from the neighborhoods next door. I've been here 3 times and all 3 times were the exact same, terrible. The service alone was enough to turn me away. Waiting 20+minutes before we are even acknowledged. They also have an outdoor bar area where you can sit and smoke so all the smoke then travels to the preschool next door. Excellent!
Update: Went here today for the second time and though there was a wait, were just as impressed. Kaitlin sat us as soon as a table opened up and Stephanie was our server. She was very attentive but did not hover and was very patient with me while I chose what I wanted from the menu. We will be back :) We went here today for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. Seeing how we have 2 small kids we were a little worried about it being too loud but it was perfect. Quiet, clean and we had excellent service. Breanna was our server and she was not only friendly but very attentive. We ordered the grilled chicken nachos, cowboy burger, coconut shrimp and buffalo chicken sandwich, all came out very tasty and had a good sized portion. I really enjoyed the jalapeno ranch sauce, would recommend 10/10

We got their wings. Both boneless wings and regular wings were great. You can also get flats only if you’d like which was a huge plus for us.

The star of the show was their house made blue cheese dressing. It was amazing. We liked it so much that we bought a container to go home with us.

The atmosphere inside is a mix of sports theme and military decor. Clientele were relaxed. Sound was at a level where we could enjoy conversation while also enjoying the music.

This will be a regular spot for us.

As an added note, they let us the space to celebrate the 250th birthday of the USMC. I would have given a sixth star to them for that if I could have.

Hands down the best family friendly sports bar around with great wings and a nice selection of beers on tap.

The Tavern is an absolute gem for sports fans and foodies alike! If you're in town and haven't tried their wings, you're seriously missing out—they're easily the best around. But don't stop there; their burgers are also top-notch, and the sweet potato fries? Seriously, they're to die for! What makes this place even better is the fantastic staff; everyone who works there is incredibly nice. Plus, they actively support first responders, which is truly wonderful to see. It's the perfect spot to catch a game, enjoy some truly fantastic food, and feel good about supporting a local business.

Prior visits I wasn’t too impressed with overall business structure. I think there have been major changes. I decided to go out with my wife and to my surprise my experience deserves a 5 star in service and food quality. I was a multiple sport bar owner for 10 years and if I was in business I would steal that bartender, because he have all the qualities of what a bartender mist be in order for the business to succeed. I didn’t catch his name but he is the face of the business and he made our visit a super pleasant one. He was on top of our service, the order was taken right and in a flash. Food was just right to order despite of our special request. We will go back again. Thank you
