We visited Steinhatchee for the first time and loved it. McDavid’s was a huge highlight of our trip. The food was phenomenal, service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was so fun and family friendly. The Cuban sandwich was top notch, and breakfast was so filling and delicious. Not to mention Loki the cat and all his cuteness. If you’re in the area don’t miss an opportunity to stop in! We went 3 days in a row.

Great food. Owens are fabulous people fighting their way back from the devastation of the hurricane last year which took their house and business. Quaint little cafe with great food (hanburgers, poboy shrimp sandwich, brisket on Texas toast and great mac and cheese). They make the best donut and donut holes I have ever eaten. If you are traveling north or south on US 19, take a little turn and head out to McDavids in Steinhatchee.

We went there for breakfast but they stopped serving it at 11:00, so we opted for the country fried steak with gravy, fried okra and a salad. The steak was good and the okra tasty. The salad was meh and the choice of dressing was lo
limited. The service was great. We liked the very friendly, hometown vibe, and the decorations were nice. I think it was a little overpriced, though, for a small town like Steinhatchee.

We came in at about 8:10, the hostess was inviting and was a cute little place. But, we were a little rushed to order; I got the Belgian waffles with strawberries which turned out to be 1 waffle with some puréed strawberries. On the other hand, my father got biscuits and gravy, no complaints there, it was delicious.
In attempt to return the waffle the response was, “Well what was wrong with it? [and] That’s a perfectly good waffle!” Which I found to be a reasonable response at this “Mom and Pop” sort of place. But, when we went to the front to pay we were charged for the waffle I’d taken a bite and a half from. The gentleman at the counter said (and I quote), “Well she took a bite from a perfectly good waffle! I’ll make it 100 times over till it’s approved of…” In which my father responded, “Like I said I’m not going to fight you on this.”.
We paid in full and left.
Others there seemed to have a great experience, so hopefully if you stop by you will too.

I am sure the food is wonderful however, based on the attitude of the “hostess” we left. She was rude, cut people off mid sentence and was not inviting at all! There was a small entrance/waiting room, it was full, and people were still trying to squeeze in. And then you have to order and pay right then before you’re even seated. This caused so much back up… maybe next time we will have a better experience? May the odds be ever in your favor.
