The owner said something very racist and out of line to my five year old son. Immediately left. Don’t give that man any business.
Amazing ice cream!
Sure thing, here’s a punchier and more polished version with a Gen X edge:

Run, don’t walk, away from this place. As a native Floridian, I know good ice cream and true Southern hospitality—this spot has neither. The ice cream? Definitely not better than my Aunt Jeanie’s. The service? Nonexistent. Just a couple of Gen Z employees more interested in their phones than their customers. And the kicker? $12 for a single scoop in a bland, factory-made waffle cone. Save yourself the letdown—grab a half-gallon from Publix on the way out. You’ll thank yourself later.
Really disappointed with our visit. I hate leaving negative reviews, especially for a small business, but this one is well-deserved. The customer service was cold and unwelcoming from the start. My wife ordered the peach flavor, and all five of us tried it—none of us could finish it. It was genuinely inedible.
We didn’t ask for a refund, but it was obvious we weren’t enjoying it, and no one behind the counter seemed to care or even ask if everything was okay. That lack of basic customer care really stood out.
Also, for an ice cream shop, the setup was just… odd. There was no ice cream on display, no visible options for toppings, and the overall atmosphere felt off. It didn’t feel like the fun, welcoming experience you’d expect from a place selling ice cream.
The strangest part? The high Google rating. Based on our experience, it feels very out of sync with what we saw and tasted.
Very rude. So we just walked out. We ask if they made shakes. She replied with a quick smirk snacky NO
customer service is terrible but ice cream is good.
My family and I absolutely love visiting Steinhatchee Scoops, it’s our nightly tradition every year after dinner. It’s heartwarming to see a local, family-owned business thriving, and this one is truly special. We drive all the way from South Carolina for their homemade, delicious ice cream, the banana pudding flavor is my personal favorite! The gentleman behind the counter is always a delight, and we genuinely enjoy our friendly chats. The atmosphere is welcoming, family-friendly, and full of charm. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem the next time you’re in town. We make the trip for the ice cream…and the scallops too!
Family favorite! We love the banana pudding!
Amazing ice cream!
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, the customer service was incredibly rude and dismissive. We were treated with a level of hostility that was completely uncalled for. The man behind the counter (older gentleman) seemed more interested in being political with us than actually serving customers.
As someone who shares many of the same values and beliefs, I was shocked at how we were treated respect goes both ways. There’s no excuse for that kind of attitude, especially in a small business that relies on community.
I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects basic courtesy. Just to be clear we weren’t being rude and ignored all the smart comments. This was completely one-sided. We came in polite and left stunned by how we were treated.

We saw a video about this guy who traveled around Florida and went to this ice cream shop in Steinhatchee
Scoops, so we decided to go check it out. When we got there, they were closed, but a sign on the door said to call a number if you wanted ice cream. Don't go by what the time says here. Call them to check their hours. It seems they have seasonal hours. Hubby called, and I texted. I popped into Willy Bob's bait and tackle shop because they were also on the video as having fish dip and some frozen fish, such as mahimahi, yellow tail and triple tail, as well as shrimp and crab legs. They were out of fish dip. So we got some Mahi mahi and decided to just take a drive and look around and we were less than 2 miles away when the ice cream shop owner called us back and said he'd be there real soon.
So we headed back over, and boy, are we glad we did! All the non-standard ice creams have their own names. Some are obvious, but some you have to ask what they are. The man offered to give us a taste of banana pudding. Then he gave me key lime, which was really good, but I wasn't sure if i wanted a whole cup of that. My go-to is usually MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP, but I'm also a big fan of chocolate peanut butter...... so when I mentioned this, he told me he had chocolate peanut butter, but that it also had banana in it.So I asked if I could taste that one. That was FUNKEY MONKEY. I got a cup of it. The chocolate was very, very good tasting. However, I could barely taste the banana or peanut butter. Hubby got a waffle cone of strawberry. We were happy that the guy opened up the ice cream store just for us. We sat there at the counter and ate our ice cream (but didn't take any pictures; sorry)! We chatted with the guy while we were sitting there and had a really nice time. We felt like we were visiting with a friend. We even stayed after we finished eating our ice cream and continued our conversation.
We'd definitively recommend checking it out. The homemade ice cream is great. My hubby said it was the biggest cone he'd ever had, and he had a hard time finishing it - there is only just 1 option for a waffle cone. It is a bit pricy, and I wish they had an option for a smaller sugar or cake cone. There's no option for toppings or for a banana split or Sundae. They also had soda available in cans or bottles. There's parking right in front of the place.
We plan to go back. Next time, we will try different flavors!
We'd recommend you give it a try. We were impressed with the taste of the ice cream and we think that you'd enjoy it too! 😉

Purchase as much of this this ice cream that you can consume before it melts. It is excellent HOMEMADE ICE CREAM! That is hard to find in this country these days.
