I stopped in Max’s Gourmet Bagels for the first time today. I’m torn on how best to provide a review because of the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the place.

THE BAGELS: Finally decided to go with a five star because MOST people will go there for the bagels AND the bagels are great! Crispy outsides chewy insides just as a bagel should be. If you’re looking for a bagel, you can’t go wrong here.

AMBIANCE: Now, on to the other side. If you’re looking for a place to eat breakfast with some atmosphere, you won’t find it here. “Perfunctory” is the word that comes to mind. Plastic ware, baskets and napkins, functional tables and chairs self-serve coffee… that’s what you’ll get here.

BREAKFAST: If you’re looking to have a good breakfast with your bagel, forget it. “Afterthought” would be the word to best describe their breakfast offerings. I ordered bacon, egg and a sesame bagel, along with a tea (forget my tea Latte). The bagel was great but the bacon and egg looked and tasted like they picked it up at the nearby McDonnalds and slapped it on a plate.

BOTTOM LINE: My key question with every place I review… Would I come back? The answer… YES, for a dozen bagels but a most definite NO for breakfast.

THE BEST BAGELS.
I have been trying to find a better bagel than Max’s’ for at least 5 years.
I’ve failed.
They have the best around. Full stop.

Ignore the swarm of bitter boomers complaining about drive thru issues, and prices raising to more than $.05c a bagel and you will find a charming delicious spot with phenomenal character.

10/10.

Very mediocre bagels that are not worth the price. I got a bagel sandwich, and asked for butter. It was very dry, perhaps stale (I was here in the morning too), and even though I asked for butter, the lady did not put it on. My wife also thought her bagel was quite dry and lacked the chewiness of a good NY bagel.

Good, but $5 for a bagel & veggie cream cheese seems excessive.

Sat in drive through for 20 minutes with 1 person in front of me. If you are that understaffed, close the drive through. If staff just too slow, train them better. I used to love going there. Not again.

Ehhh...so so. Bagel was good. Staff is super slow and would rather have long conversations with other customers than wait in the ones in line so I most likely won't go back.

My wife and I have been snowbirds for 10 years. One of the things I forward to the most my daily dose of Max's Bagel ...better than any bagels I have had anywhere!!! They are the absolute best!!!

First, forget about calling and speaking to someone, they do NOT answer the phones. Second, you can NEVER get egg bagels which is shocking for a bagel shop.

The bagels are fine. But $4.50 plus tax for a sesame bagel with butter is silly. Significantly higher than other places, not better.
