Beware!!! Do not use this business!!!! Friends and I rented a boat from here only because they offered a one day rental but we quickly realized why. Because noone would want to go on their boats two days in a row! The boat was in such poor condition that I can't believe we didn't turn around and head back in as we learned basic safety things were broken. There was NO gas gage and they precharge you for gas. First scam. Secondly the compass, ladders, lights, shifter, rails, seat cushion, depth finder, ALL broken. The boat actually had zip ties and ducktape on every surface holding something in place. When we brought all of this to the owners attention he made a ton pf excuses, but every boat in the lot looked like it hadn't been cleaned or repaired in years ( our boat was dirty upon arrival). All around a ripoff and we learned our lesson for future rentals.

Think twice before renting a boat from Summerland Seafood. The boats are overpriced, and lacking adequate maintenance. Our boat had a missing gate latch, broken ladder and broken anchor.Unfortunately, we were several miles offshore before we noticed the broken anchor. And no backup anchor, either. We had to establish a human anchor to prevent the boat from drifting when we stopped. This was not a good experience for everyone involved. When we got back and told the owner, he suggested we should have done a full check of all boat parts before leaving. We did get a $50 discount, but this was only a small fraction of the overall cost. No apology or accountability for the lack of maintenence or customer experience.Look elsewhere if you are renting a boat. Plenty of other reputable places in the Florida Keys.

writing this review because we don’t want this to happen to someone else. we take full responsibility on our part for not researching ahead of time.we rented a boat for most of the day and the owner Joe went over safety with us and places to check out. he also mentioned that he prefers to work on his boats himself as opposed to hiring technicians like he used to..for 3 of the 5 hours we had the boat i was sick and couldn’t figure out why, later on we went to start the engine back up it wouldn’t turn.luckily my partner is a mechanic and he figured out the engine was leaking fuel into the bilge/boat hull. after my partner and i tried to turn the engine over we called for assistance. when help arrived my partner was expected to fix the engine on the boat himself. after sticking his head in a tiny space full of gasoline and cutting his hands up, we were on our way back to the marina. thankfully we missed the storm that was headed right for us.Joe took off $100 from our bill but if this was anyone else, they never would have known what to do in this situation. we full and well understand small businesses but integrity also goes a very LONG way.cute dog though.

Joe and Jenny are great! Joe, thanks for the lobster cooking lesson!

As authentic as it gets. Joe is a great, soft-spoken, tell it like it is, conch. There comes a point when these people like Joe, who live here every day, grow weary of big city "reviewers" that don't understand how hard the simplest tasks (like getting supplies, fighting the salt) can be in the Keys. If you go to an authentic spot, expect to get authentic people. Not Disney employees.

Terrible experience, we got here ready to get on an go and soon as the owner came on to check the boat he realized it wouldn’t even start.. had someone else come out to fix it, an as he did that he heard us talking about how we didn’t feel safe anymore on this boat an he tired around an started cursing telling us get our money back n leave if we don’t like it... that‘a exactly what we did. Boat was over priced to like 650 an didn’t even start.

Summerland seafood and boat rental is horrible ! I went on vacation with a party of 8 and we came to Summerland seafood to rent a boat. Upon arrival we found that our boat did not start. The quality of the boats are horrible as well. Employees and mechanic are very rude and disrespectful. Do not plan a boat rental at Summerland seafood.

Our boat rental experience was excellent. Yeap, they rent boats. You wouldn’t know it from the outside or by calling them. I figured it’s the relaxed “Florida vibe”. Joe said I should stop by when we got into town, so I did. I was surprised. Not what I expected. But thought let’s see how it goes. Bottom line. Joe and Jenny treated us like family. They ensured we had the best equipment for our intent which was tubing and snorkeling for the 4 teens we had taken to the keys. We had a blast and will rent from them again when we return in November 2020.
