Dutch pot Dutch pot Dutch pot I don’t know what’s going on with you guys every time I visited Fort Lauderdale I try to get some food there before I go back to nj , I always visited the one off commercial but today before my flight I run to this branch, I bought bbq chicken, ended up only eating the rice , am not going to say what happened to the chicken because I bought bbq chicken from the commercial branch before, as a Jamaican chef, just do the right thing man you all know how to cook bbq chicken, like I said I have eaten bbq from the branch on commercial before, the 3 star is for the rice and peas and cabbage!
We walked into The Dutch Pot Jamaican Restaurant and immediately noticed the long line—always a good sign that the food is worth the wait. It took about 20-25 minutes just to place our order during lunchtime, but in the end, it was absolutely worth it.
I ordered the Oxtail with veggies instead of rice, though most other customers seemed to prefer their meals with rice. The staff was generous with the oxtail sauce, making the dish look even more delicious—and it did not disappoint. The oxtails were tender, flavorful, and came in large, satisfying bites. Highly recommended!
I also ordered patties with my meal, but they were just okay. The flavor didn’t stand out as much as I hoped.
One great addition was their selection of juices in the fridge. I grabbed a soursop juice, and it was incredibly refreshing—perfect for balancing out the rich flavors of the meal.
The restaurant has plenty of seating if you’re dining with a coworker or a friend. It’s located in a busy plaza with ample parking and a variety of other stores nearby, including a grocery store, pho restaurant, smoke shop, and AutoZone. If you have the time to wait, the food is definitely worth trying!

Review: Dutch Pot Jamaican Restaurant
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1 out of 5 stars)
My recent visit to Dutch Pot Jamaican Restaurant was a deeply disappointing experience that fell far short of expectations, with issues ranging from poor service to questionable food quality.
Service & Atmosphere:
The service experience was fragmented at best. While there were a few bright spots – namely an accommodating older staff member and a professional cashier – the overall service culture left much to be desired. Most staff members appeared disinterested and struggled with basic operations, such as assembling combination meals. One particular person who was also serving ( a sightly tall young lady) openly hostile demeanor was especially concerning; her visible irritation ( aka resting bit** face) when consulted by a coworker about my order created an uncomfortable carry-out experience. This lack of coordination and professionalism significantly detracted from the experience.
Food Quality:
The food quality raised serious concerns about freshness and preparation standards. The brown stew chicken, a dish that should showcase rich flavors and tender meat, tasted stale and lacked the vibrant seasonings characteristic of Jamaican cuisine. More worryingly, the cabbage mix exhibited clear signs of spoilage, making it inedible. The soup was equally problematic, with neither flavor nor proper preparation evident in the dish.
The sole redeeming element of the meal was the carrot juice, which maintained the quality and taste one would expect from a Caribbean restaurant. However, one decent beverage cannot salvage an otherwise problematic carry out experience.
Value & Recommendations:
Given the combination of poor service, questionable food freshness, and overall lack of flavor, I cannot recommend Dutch Pot Jamaican Restaurant. The establishment needs significant improvements in several areas:
- Staff training and customer service standards
- Food quality control and freshness monitoring
- Consistency in meal preparation
- General kitchen management and oversight
For those seeking authentic Jamaican cuisine, I would strongly advise exploring other options in the area. The current state of Dutch Pot's offerings does not do justice to the rich culinary traditions it claims to represent.
