Despite all the recent bad reviews, we decided to try the pastrami.
While the comparisons to Katz's and other famous delis are not appropriate, Josh has a good sandwich with the right amount of juiciness. The bread was toasted well.
However the portion is small, the price is high ($28 as of 2026) and they put an automatic tip even with minimal service.
Come if your not able to get good pastrami but not worth coming otherwise.

Super disappointed, I use to come here with my father every Friday for lunch for 6 years straight. After new management sandwiches are smaller. Less ingredients. The Reuben did not taste anything like before. One last comment; at least toast the buns y'all I promise it makes the sandwiches taste better

DO NOT EAT HERE. All the most recent negative reviews are true! From the negative service, inedible food, to the automatic gratuity, the server quickly signing the signature portion on the transaction and the smell of dirty floor/rug/rag of old dumpster food.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Josh’s Deli was extremely disappointing.
The food was honestly inedible. My French dip sandwich was filled with fatty, gummy pieces of meat that made it impossible to enjoy. I had to pick through it, and even then, it just wasn’t good. The pastrami Reuben had the thinnest, most skimpy layer of pastrami I’ve ever seen — especially for a deli that’s supposed to specialize in this. It felt more like bread with a hint of meat than an actual Reuben. The BLT was just as bad — the bacon was poorly cooked and the sandwich overall was bland and underwhelming.
To make matters worse, our waitress spilled our $6 Coca-Cola and didn’t offer to replace it. No apology beyond a quick acknowledgment, no effort to make it right. Then we noticed an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill without being told upfront.
Between the poor food quality, lack of service recovery, and automatic tip, this was a frustrating and overpriced experience. Definitely not worth the money, and unfortunately not somewhere I’d return.

I was so excited to eat here. When I walked in and placed my order they explained they were out of pastrami and I said, “chefs choice, I’ll take whatever you make” - 20 minutes later I got up to check on the order, and was told it would be 5 more minutes they were finishing up. 15 minutes later I walked in to see what was going on, I was told they canceled my order, it was never made - but If I wanted to wait 15 more minutes they could bring us something. Honestly, the service was just so so disappointing.

No-frills deli sandwiches, burgers, and other dishes. The food is high-quality & made well. The decor is ramshackle but has its charm. Seating for approximately 15 people inside (and approx 6 outside). Prices are what you’d expect. Kosher certified. Located in the heart of Surfside’s kosher scene. Parking is very hard to find here.

This place is a rip off! I paid $40+ for a mediocre sandwich and a can of diet coke.
