Hands down best sushi in the New tampa and Wesley Chapel area. The fish selection and freshness used is unparalleled.

Food was decent but would have been good had we received it at a reasonable time. We arrived for our reservation at 6:10pm and were seated right away. We placed our entire order at about 6:30pm since we could tell what we were dealing with. Mind you we were just ordering for 2 adults and a toddler.

Appetizers arrived at 6:50pm warm. 4 sushi rolls arrived at 7:20pm cold. We literally watched our plate of sushi just sit there while our waittress did everything else but bring us our food. URGH. What was happening while we sat there: people literally arriving, eating their entire meals and leaving while we just sat there waiting for our food.

We have small children and don't go much. This was an intensely disappointing experience. We're not going to risk another bad experience by returning.

The service was fantastic and accommodating. The food was unique and flavorful. We primarily had rolls but the Thai dishes seemed wonderful as well. We are looking forward to returning.

I've probably eaten here about a dozen times now and it's consistently awesome. Jordan is my favorite server - we've gotten to know her and she's such a joy to see. The food is extremely fresh and hits the spot every time. It's our go-to place in Wesley Chapel for a great meal that's close by and consistent. One of the best dishes there in my opinion is the Yuzu Salmon from the sushi appetizers. It melts in your mouth and a must get every time I'm there. The Lobster is a terrific sushi roll and worth the price. It's a full lobster tail that's tempura fried in the roll but also 4 nice size pieces of lobster tempura fried on their own. I've eaten sushi in MANY places and there's something different about Umu. For one, I always sub soy paper for the nori in other places but theirs is never chewy or strong flavored so I no longer sub it out. Their wasabi is fresher than any other place too. A tiny bit goes a long way, whereas I always have to order extra at other places. The serving size is perfect, the rice and the prep- perfect. I will continue to return many times!

I walked in to get lunch and was kicked out at 2:15. They didn’t offer to do take out. Very rude. It’s a shame because I would have spent some good money in here. Very rude. I’ve been to so many local places like this and have never been treated this way.

First time at this restaurant, and we will be back very soon. Our order included: Tom Kah with chicken soup; rolls: The Bomb, Candy Cane, and Eel Avocado Maki; The Sashimi Grand Selection; Yum Eggplant; and Panang Curry with Tofu. Everything was outstanding. The only additional comments to note: the Tom Kah had a lot of onions, which is different from other Tom Kahs that I have had, but nothing wrong with that. I got the medium spice and it was fabulous. The tofu in the Panang Curry was nicely firm, so it stood up well to the sauce. The rolls and sashimi tasted extraordinarily fresh and was clearly high grade fish. And our server, Jourdyn was exceptional. She made great suggestions and was very interactive, which we enjoyed. Her friendly nature, her enthusiasm, and her happy personality made it an especially enjoyable meal.

Another fantastic experience here. The food is great and their composition is very creative. The Sake selection is exceptional and you can't go wrong with the choices available. I'll keep returning here with friends and family for the foreseeable future!

Went there on a Tuesday loved it , gives off the most Japanese vibes for a restaurant that I’ve been too.

We had a movie to go to at 7 got there at 6:05 was fully fed with appetizers and multiple drinks and leaving by 6:45 10/10 love the service and the lightning and the coziness of the place

UMU a Thai sushi restaurant has everything thing to make the dining experience unforgettable. The food, ambiance and service on consistent visits is a rare find. You can easily drop a $Bill in this place with an appetizer and full dinners for two or grab an appetizer and a signature roll for a more cost effective experience and it would still be great. The green Tea has the best flavor in the area with unlimited refills. This Mothers day visit didn't disappoint. As a starter we added Tobiko to the Typhoon roll. Excellent. Entrees this visit were Teriyaki chicken with vegtables and Thai fried rice with Blue Crab, Yes, real Blue Crab. Fresh delicious and not greasy. The preparation of the entree vegetables is a must experience even for non veggie eaters like myself but I will eat UMU's. Delicious. Small and intimate with some seating outside and during peak times Resv are highly recommended since people have been discovering UMU. We discovered this Gem a couple of years ago and it's on the top of our list for our rotating date night restaurants.
