Good service quality. It’s convenient to have a small cafe for a quick morning rush and breakfast.

Country Barn Cafe- West Melbourne, FL- 2.5 Stars "4 years of off days are enough. Get your head in the game or close your business." - The Big Boy Taking a break from chain joints for a spell, I steeled myself and headed OTB (over the bridge) to West Melbourne to check out Country Barn Cafe. As I might have mentioned before, I am a sucker for a good ole down-home Southern Breakfast and as such was feeling rather exuberant as I crossed the river. Upon entering the said establishment I felt right at home. It was open, inviting, smelled like breakfast and was spotlessly clean. I found out after further research that they are family-owned and operated, but I couldn't find out how long they have been slinging hash. After being shown a table and handed a menu, it wasn't long before I was approached by a rather charming, prompt and courteous individual who introduced herself as Jennifer. Jennifer delightfully answered all my questions regarding the menu with sincerity and broad knowledge of the items and their preparation. I asked Jennifer for an order of Biscuits and Gravy (their house specialty), a flapjack and a Southern Scramble with Home Fries. Before long, Jennifer was back with my order, seeing my immediate needs were met, she was off to other duties. Eyeing the spread before me I was hard put on where to start but went with the Biscuits and Gravy. The biscuits are made on-site and one can tell with the first bite. These are your denser variety biscuits, not airy and fluffy. I actually prefer them this way. If you like the airy ones, these are not for you. The gravy was appealing and exceedingly well balanced. I had this dish on a prior visit and the biscuits were marvelous. This time they were so hard I am certain I would have shattered the window if used as a projectile. It was this previous order that earned the extra 1/2 Star. Moving on to the Griddle Cake. I found the pancake to be tasteless and obvious from a box mix. This was a letdown from the homemade goodness of the gravy I just sampled. I must say, if it was made from scratch, it was made sans buttermilk as it lacked any semblance of taste. It's possible the cook on this day is just an incompetent boob. The Southern Scramble with Home Fries was up next and the last to be reviewed this time around. The taters were bland and seemingly unseasoned. The scramble was adequate and cooked properly. The Big Boy says, "This place is a one-trick pony: sausage and gravy, that's it."
Great service. Each small booth has a TV & remote, so you can watch TV while waiting for your food or watch a game and order drinks. Nice spot in the hotel.
