My husband and I have been regulars at Hen Mother Cookhouse, Johns Creek for over a year and a half and always loved it. Today was our first visit to the Alpharetta location, and unfortunately, the experience was poor.
We ordered hot oat cakes, eggs, bacon, and a fried chicken thigh. The oat cakes were overcooked and tasted burnt. We’ve had this dish before so we know the difference. When we mentioned it, the manager bent down, hovering over the food to inspect it and said it was “fine,” offering no apology, remake, or price adjustment.
Our server Ash was excellent, but management’s response was dismissive and disrespectful. We left disappointed and won’t be returning.
This brunch spot is INCREDIBLE! I enjoyed everything I ate here and cannot recommend it enough if you’re in the mood for high quality breakfast food in a cute location. I visited on a Thursday around 11am and found it about half full, as you would expect during the week, however my friends have been here on weekends and say it gets very busy, especially since they don’t take reservations. The drink cart outside is adorable and allows people to sip away as they wait for a table. Genius!
We sat outside on the patio surrounded by trees, far enough away from the street to feel secluded. Our server was very kind and had extensive knowledge of the menu. Of all the items we tried, the Oat Hot Cakes stole the show. I loved the crispy outside contrasted with the fluffy inside, and various seeds and grains that make it a hearty and healthier option. The poached blueberries and maple syrup were great, but I also recommend spreading their jam in between the layers for an added kick of flavor. This dish is massive, so be prepared to split with someone and take home the leftover. They reheat really well!
Another high praise item was the house brined and crispy fried chicken thigh. I loved the thick seasoned batter and crispy texture. Reminded me of an elevated Kentucky fried chicken. The breakfast tacos were also pretty good, but they would taste better with cilantro. I also tried their chai and was unfortunately disappointed because it lacked the deep spice flavor you expect out of this Indian tea. Instead it tasted like lightly seasoned warm milk or pumpkin spice latte. Regardless, I still recommend visiting, especially with a group of 4 to enjoy the atmosphere and well crafted dishes.

Always a wonderful time here! If you can ask for a server, get Nick. We've had him multiple times and he's wonderful! Get in while the Shakshuka toast is still there too.

Nick was excellent—quick, attentive to detail, and very friendly throughout our visit. The food and beverages were incredible, and the pricing was very reasonable for the quality we received.
Although we were originally quoted a 45-minute wait time, we were seated in about 25 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. The only recommendation I would make is to consider adding a filter or improving the water machine, as the water had a grassy taste.
Thank you, Nick, for the outstanding service — we would happily come back to Georgia just to be served by you again.❤️❤️❤️

If your hours on both yelp and Google, so you open at seven, you should open at seven. I’d love to be able to rate your food atmosphere and service but I can’t because you weren’t open when it said you were open.
The normal menu looks great. However, I’ve only ordered the specials. They have all been highly tasty.
