Cute place with pleasant atmosphere and very friendly server. That said, I asked for the wings and she said they were out. I then asked for the soup of the day and she said they were out of that too. So I then asked for the loaded baked potato with extra on all the toppings, especially the chives, and she said no problem. The potato had probably been reheated more than once, oxydized, and lukewarm. The side of butter was hard as a rock and there were no chives. When I asked for the chives, she went to the kitchen and came back to say they haven't had chives since she started working there. The chicken piccata was very bitter. Probably a good idea to revamp the menu and remove the items described that are no longer used (chives?) and focus a bit more on the quality. One appetizer (the loaded baked potato), one hamburger w/ side of fries, one bitter chicken piccata, and two glasses of water = $70.
Fabulous food and always a friendly staff. I got the steak and my friend had the hamburger. Both were amazing. Will be back the next time I'm in Bainbridge

I had the burger. Was good and juicy. They forgot the bacon I had ordered for it. Was gone before they came back to check on us. Fries were good and hot, cooked well done like I like. My wife wasn’t impressed with her chicken and bacon sandwich, which she said was dry. She also ordered it with no sauce (ranch) which typically comes on it.
Nice layout, well done decoratively. Service was good, not over there top.
This is more the second time eating here. The server was her second day. The manager wasn’t working dinner on a Friday night which I found strange. The owner was though. I guess the manager is new.
The food was terrible at best, except the pasta dish which had good flavor and came out hot as it should. My wife ordered a burger which came out cold and over cooked, not with the fries that were ordered, they took it upon theirselves to swap with mashed potatoes. I order the pineapple marinated ribeye. It was not served with fries as I requested but they took it upon themselves to swap with green beans which I cannot stand and rice pilaf. Should have paired it with the mashed potatoes. Before substituting any of our side orders, it should’ve been brought to our attention so we could’ve chosen our own substitute and we wanted one. The steak they served me was cold. I never tasted that one. They offered to re-cook the steak and did, this time it came out hot, but flavorless it was definitely not marinated as stated on the menu my wife returned her burger and mashed potatoes as she had lost her appetite. Choice of steak was not a quality one. It was filled with gristle. So overall, the food quality was a bust. The owner never came to our table and apologized, but they did give me $15 off my $40 steak. The server apologized many times although none of it was her fault.
We heard yelling from the back that they had orders up. And Moore screaming about order sitting out not being taken to the customer so we know why our food was cold. I have previously owned two restaurants. I’d have to say that the service was lacking greatly probably because the manager wasn’t there on one of their busiest times as an owner. I personally would’ve went to the table with so many mistakes provided the mail for free although that’s not what I was looking for communication would’ve been key especially coming from the owner not a second day server.
I heard they changed owners about a year ago and I would have to say I don’t like what I see and doubt that I’ll ever be back and I’m sure I will make sure and mention it to my friends

I had heard good things about The American, but was very disappointed. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrées The Crab dip was flavorless and the tomato pie was very doughy with 3 slices of tomato on top. The salads were served with croutons that were sweet and tasted like stale scones. The ranch tasted sweet like miracle whip. The steak that was ordered medium was served rare and tasted like white smoke. Our drinks were not refilled and the glasses were small. The zucchini in the pasta dish was not cooked. I searched the fries for one grain of salt and could not find any and there was not any salt or pepper on the table. I don't know what happened to this place that I had heard good reviews about in the past. The music and the booth seating were nice. The building was neat and looks out to the town square. We went on a Friday night about 7:30. It was not busy at the time we were there.

Notice the new owners are not listed. Could it be because it’s an entirely different restaurant and not the glory it used to be? Understand the food just isn’t up to the old standard. Hear too much from others on yet another restaurant starting great, selling, and going to crap.

New ownership. All the staff has walked out, food isn’t up to previous standards, only one person to wait on tables. Not worth the price. Hope they can turn this around.

My daughter and I had business in Bainbridge, so we chose The American for lunch. There were only three tables occupied during what should have been a busy lunch hour. We ordered hamburgers, cooked medium. They were very rare, cold red and mushy center and dripping blood. There was no seasoning on them and we couldn’t get any salt and pepper. We could not get refills on our drinks. No one came to check in us after we were served. It’s not because they were understaffed. One of the servers stood at the kitchen window talking extremely loud to the kitchen staff the entire time, which was very annoying. We couldn’t even pay. We had to leave cash on the table. We were there way over an hour so there’s no way anyone could go on their lunch hour. Our bill for two hamburgers and two teas was $42. I don’t mind paying for a premium experience but this was not it. I won’t be back any time soon, if ever.
The restaurant was not crowded and we were seated right away. The soda machine was out of order and all the menu items were not available. The food however was very good and the portions were plenty. You have to get the skillet cornbread, it was delicious.

The American has been my go to when I am in town for business. Food and service have always been great.
Last week, my crab cakes were cold and they were out of a few items. Not a big deal...everyone has a bad day.
Today, crab cakes were great.
However, they were out of 2 entres and bacon. Something has obviously changed. Hope it gets back to the way it used to be.

Amazing first experience with Marbella and The American tonight. Very knowledgeable on the menu, great recommendations, and went above and beyond for our birthday celebration. Thank you again!

The food was excellent and the service was even better. Hats off the cook staff. Hands down the absolute best waitress we have ever had. We frequent restaurants across the southeast and The American is at the top of our list. This young woman sets the bar for how a waitress should be.

Service was slow. We were a party of 13 and not sure if she was new or what was happening. My food came out completely cold, another family members food had to be comped due to something off with the taste.
