Our son likes the place for its kitsch atmosphere. The food is good but there are definitely better places for quality seafood. The waitress was friendly and helpful, preparing part of our order to go. We need to go back and try the bar scene

Never leave reviews, however just left The Hungry Crab in Brunswick, Ga. A black widow spider interrupted my dinner. I was able to slap it off before it bit me ( hopefully) .. I’m a pretty easy going person, but did bring it to the staff’s attention. Even had the actual spider in a napkin to confirm the type of spider it was. The waiter let us talk to management.. management offered to relocate us within the establishment, however the damage had been done. Paranoia sat in for me and my family that came to eat.. we also had 4 toddlers under 3 years old. So the thought of them getting bit was a little overwhelming. We didn’t leave because like I said we had babies with us that had just left the water park and was already fussy because they were hungry. We were not offered a discount or anything of that nature, it didn’t even seem like it was a concern to management. It seemed more as if we were a burden to them. Not to bring race into it, but to paint the picture clear., we were a group of African Americans in what seemed to be an Asian ran environment.

We ordered the blue crab boil and the clam and shrimp combo. Right away, we noticed problems. The clams were so tiny they were barely dime-sized. The blue crabs were small, gray, and mushy, almost like they’d been harvested before they were fully grown, with hardly any meat inside. The shrimp were rubbery and tasted off. Everything seemed like it had been frozen forever. Honestly, we couldn’t eat any of it because we were genuinely worried about getting sick.

When we brought up our concerns, the manager immediately dismissed us and said the food was “normal.” We explained we weren’t comfortable paying for food that looked and tasted like that. He did eventually take a few of the items off our bill, but not before slamming the plates together and leaving them on a table nearby. The whole interaction felt hostile, even toward our server, who was very kind but clearly uncomfortable working in that environment.

After our experience, I read more reviews and found photos from others showing moldy potatoes and undercooked chicken, along with more reports of rude management. The menu even states at the bottom that they do not issue refunds, which is a major red flag.

With everything I experienced and what I’ve seen from other customers, I have real concerns about the food safety at this restaurant. I wouldn’t risk eating here or recommend it to anyone.
