Oh, Christian and Jake’s Bistro, you have long been my lunchtime sanctuary. My husband and I have been loyal devotees, singing praises of your sandwiches far and wide, especially that Reuben, which, let’s be honest, is a rare gem to find done well. But lately…well, let’s just say something is off.
My husband and I ordered our beloved Reubens (corned beef for him, turkey for me), but what we got was a huge letdown. First, the meat portion? Skimpy. The centerpiece of a Reuben should be the glorious stack of protein, but instead, it was like the meat was playing hide-and-seek under a mountain of sauerkraut. And boy, did that kraut take over. It was like the sandwich was hosting a sauerkraut festival, with the corned beef and turkey showing up as mere guests.
Oh, and the bread. I mean, I expect a little grease with my grilled bread—it’s part of the charm, right? But this bread was so greasy it could’ve slipped right out of my hands and into a NASCAR pit crew lineup.
At almost $40 for two sandwiches, you’d expect more than a sauerkraut tower with some oily bread slabs. Where was the balance? The Russian dressing barely made an appearance, and what little there was couldn’t save the day.
Now, to be fair, this place has been one of our absolute favorites for years. So, I’m hoping these last two visits were just flukes and not a sign of things going downhill. Maybe a new cook? An off day? Whatever it is, I sincerely hope they get back on track soon. Because if this keeps up, I might have to break up Christian and Jake's and find a new sandwich maker soulmate.
Here’s hoping Christian and Jake’s gets back to being the sandwich legends I know they can be. Otherwise, I’m not forking over $40 for what feels like a greasy kraut-bomb.

The parking lot is full of locals. That’s a good sign. They have the best pimento, chicken salad, Reuben sandwiches I have ever had. The others are probably as good but those are the only ones I’ve had.

The best ever. I have never eat at a bistro but have being thinking about trying it. Today I did and now I will never make my own sandwich again. I have never tasted something so good. I had a chicken salad on marble rye. It's like the best chicken salad I have ever ate and I have tried many. The marble rye is so good also. I can not wait to try more of them.

I've only been here once and got a BBBLT, that's how much bacon was on this thing! They did not skimp on it like most places. It was delicious, fresh, and filling! I normally pass on desert but it looked too good to pass up and I do not regret indulging. Fairly priced and good portions. I won't remove any stars because the food and service were stellar but some things to note was the scarcity of seating area and the hours of operation. Not too big a deal as the most important parts were excellent! Will return for that bacon overload soon!

Quaint little bistro in Calhoun that serves huge portions and delicious food. The salads, sandwiches and OMG…the dessert…so good. Definitely a must stop!!

THE BEST PLACE IN CALHOUN. The owner and the staff are extremely nice!! Today I wanted to buy a pie and the sweet guy at the front made me one from scratch for my mother’s birthday. We go there a lot, and we won’t stop!

Group of seven and we decided we wanted something local. This did not disappoint and was a great pick. By how busy it was we were sat quickly and drinks were on the table. Everyone remarked how good their sandwich or salad was and deserts for almost everyone. Great pick!
Food comes fit for a GIANT and is delicious! Their homemade pies are out of this world. Tastiest Food around and no one serves a sandwich fit for Jack Reacher but this place!
