Our favorite local place for a great dinner or breakfast.

Our server was great, prompt, courteous, orders all correct. The portions were mostly large, but the food was quite expensive for the quality.
I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes, 2 big slabs of meatloaf; but it wasn't particularly good meatloaf, the gravy tasted like it came from a package... More diner than fancy dining.
Everybody else said similar things about the food, too.
They had a published special, that they didn't honor, which is the only reason we booked there to begin with. When we made the reservation, we asked, and were told it was still the special.
Better value is available in town.

After living in the community for nearly 3 years my wife have been searching for a breakfast place we can create a routine in visiting for a weekend breakfast/brunch treat. We have driven past The Attic numerous times and wanted to give them a try. We finally had the opportunity to do so and arrived promptly at 9am on a Saturday morning, the time posted on a sign near the door and online.
This day was a sunny but chilly February morning and parking is in the rear of the building making for a cold walk around the building. The “OPEN” sign was glowing and lights on inside but the doors locked. I rattled the door to get some attention but no one came. We went to an alternate door on the front of the building and it was locked as well. We paused for a few moments waiting and looking for activity inside but after no response we returned to our car and debated what to do. To kill some time we drove around the block giving them another 15 mins to open, thinking perhaps they were just running late, it happens… We returned, but still all locked up and no one to be seen. The time was 9:20am.
Now I’m upset…
Not only for my wasted time but advertising operational hours and not honoring the pledge. Do the customers time and efforts not matter to these restauranteurs? We gave them the benefit of the doubt and they wasted our time in the cold. If this is how they do business then I do not want to give them any of mine.
The take away; If after reading this you decide to try The Attic, do so on “Island time” (aka no clocks), go when it’s warm and be sure to lower any expectations.

Went to the Attic with spouse and friends for lunch before visiting the nearby Miles Through Time auto museum. Dining area is very comfortable, clean and spacious. Very inviting patio for when a bit warmer. Hosts were friendly and helpful. We were promptly seated. Service was very timely. The broad all American menu has something for everyone. Some got burgers and were pleased. I got the amazing French dip (and fries) and was super pleased, served hot, outstanding, and so big! Spouse got lobster bisque which was surprisingly excellent, better than many fancy big city seafood restaurants, along with a delicious grilled salmon salad. One nit-pick, the coffee was hot but we-e-ak. The second cup was kindly made more flavorful on request. Looking forward to returning when in the area

Stopped here for lunch. It is a nice looking g ace and the food was not bad.
The cheeseburger was cooked to order and was hot when I got it.
The atmosphere could have been a lot better, but it was so cold in there that I could not enjoy my meal.
In all fairness, I do believe the atmosphere would be great if it was more comfortable inside. It is an old building with a lot of character. They also have an outside patio which would be nice in the spring.
The waitress was very nice and did a good job.

Mediocre at best. We had the spinach artichoke dip, Greek salad with grilled chicken, buffalo chicken wrap with onion rings and shrimp and grits. The shrimp was way overcooked and the grits lacked any real flavor. $6 for 4 onion rings is ridiculous. I did not have one but they said they've had much better. Overall, a disappointing meal.

Attic WE live in Highlands, NC but our kids live in GA. It is a wonderful drive there and back, but we always plan our trip with a lunch stop in Clarkesville, at the Attic Restaurant. Exposed brick walls, a nice bar and ALWAYS fresh foods: I almost always get special soup. We dine inside, but outside is lovely too! Love the waitstaff, the ownership, and even the guests are congenial. The town has cute shops, a great antiques shop and more. You never know where to go off the interstate, BUT the attic is worth the detour!

We heard The Attic was the best in Clarkesville so we went there for Christmas eve dinner, but we were very disappointed with the food. The Alfredo was watery, the pork medallions were so tough you couldn't eat them, the shrimp (10) were over-priced and lacked the blackened seasoning I ordered and the short ribs were insufficient to make a meal (6 bites) and also lacked seasoning. Definitely not worth the cost.
