We enjoyed our meal here. They were busy but kept cleaning and reseating the next guest. They did a great job!
Their friend green tomato does have a spice to it that we were not expecting.

Stopped for lunch. Food was not very good, they were very kind and refunded us. The breakfast looked good and we probably should've ordered that. Chicken and dumplings was more like a chicken stew with no dumplings, just veggies and chicken. If that's the way it normally is maybe consider calling it something else. No flavor to the lima beans and the casserole of the day was not good. However, the fried green tomatoes were very good, I would get those again. And the corn muffins were good. Hubs said his chicken tenders were over cooked. I can't say I recommend any of the chicken dishes, but service was great. Try breakfast or maybe a sandwich or burger. I appreciated them offering a refund for the chicken and dumplings especially at $17.99, hate to pay a high price for something not good. If we pass through again, I'll try them for breakfast.

We visit friends in Franklin NC every year and took a trip down to Clayton as we were visiting waterfalls. The Clayton Cafe is a great place to stop in for a quick bite. All of our food was amazing but I was blown away by the fried chicken sandwich. Hot, crispy, juicy, tender, well seasoned, and LARGE! Definitely one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. Come with a big appetite or enjoy your leftovers later. The staff was great and took great care of us. The restaurant as a whole was just outstanding and we will make this a yearly stop. Thank you Clayton Cafe!!!!

{NOT SERVICE ANIMAL INCLUSIVE} Truly a disappointing experience! We arrived (on my birthday no less) excited for mimosas and benedicts. Asked for a table for a family of 5 with a service dog. Was told it would be a 30min wait. Gave them our number and walked around downtown Clayton while we waited. After 45min we saw on the app that there were no parties ahead of us so we went back to wait at the entrance. After 5 more minutes I asked the host if we were just waiting for a clean table, she said it would still be a short wait and went to speak to someone in near the prep station, I assume her supervisor, (we could see 3 empty tables). She then came back and said that because they are an open kitchen restaurant (which isn’t even the case, unless you consider the counter where servers pick up prepared plates an open kitchen) they cannot allow services animals to be seated anywhere inside. Now I am no “Karen” and we were all hangry at this point plus it was my birthday so I didn’t object or make a thing of it. I just said it would have been nice if someone told us that an hour ago when we arrived and we left. But now out of the benefit of other service animal individuals/families I can’t just let it go. What they did is illegal. My hope is that this review will find its way to their management and they will be educated on the laws regarding service animals and that their future treatment of their handlers will be appropriately respectful and welcoming. Now I didn’t let this ruin my mood for the whole afternoon and we went on to have a lovely rest of the day being welcomed in every single other shop and eatery downtown! You can’t get more “open kitchen” than Main Street Chocolates and when my son stayed outside at first with our dog all the servers immediately said “your dog is welcome inside!”. And their treats are incredible! Please Clayton Cafe; learn the law and train your employees accordingly. I don’t want others to have the same experience we did. Waiting an hour to be wrongfully turned away was a bad look on your part for sure.
Great location. The place is small but not in a bad way. Service by our server was a bit to be desired because we had to remind her that we needed extra napkins. Another server that helped the table next to us did an incredible job, was friendly and came back to his table several times to make sure they didn’t need anything. We make ask to sit in his section next time. The food was good but found it odd that it was served in what I related to dog dishes. Kind of hard to cut certain food items out of a plate that was the shape of a bowl. Maybe it’s their signature and sets them apart for being unique. I would still recommend despite my small nitpicking complaints. Good prices and parking is easy to find.

Food has great flavor and good portion size. Our table had chicken and dumplings, BLT (with fried green tomato), chicken pot pie, and chicken biscuit. All were good.

Another great gem in Clayton Georgia!
This quaint Cafe has a great history. Opened in 1931 in a building that first served as the local Trailways Bus station, the Clayton Cafe is the landmark eatery in Clayton. Friendly service, hometown vibe.
Great food!! I recommend the pumpkin pancakes or the cornbeef hash!!

Looking for a good place to eat? Keep looking. The only thing that was good was the cornbread muffin. Mashed potatoes served without gravy or butter. Didn't eat it. Chicken looked and tasted like it had been on a warming table for hours.

My family has been coming here for years and has always loved the food. However, this year was a bit disappointing. The restaurant was ice cold, and they have changed the mac and cheese, which used to be delicious. All four members of my family agreed that it was some of the worst mac and cheese we have had. Overall, I would recommend the cafe, but I hope management will address these two issues.
It was okay, food took a bit to come out to the table
Overpriced, and not what you expect. Biscuits only tasted like moist flour, grits were cool to the point they wouldn't melt the butter, and the gravy was more of a stew than a biscuit topping.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a bowl of tomato soup and cornbread. No cornbread available due to not having muffin tins (?). They did allow me to have toast. It cost over $10 for a bowl of soup which was not even that great…and no apologies for lack of cornbread. I will not be back.
