First thing I noticed was the pleasant way customers welcomed. Then the bathroom had a chair in the corner for a place to set whatever you are carrying. The cashier was super friendly as well.
I remember buying a dozen glazed at $1.99 or stopping for a treat at the Ponce de Leon BIG Krispy Kreme on the way to the big, really big Sears in downtown Atlanta.
That was in the 70's. Today, the $14.99 dozen ain't nothing like I remember. They are spongy (like eating a sugar sponge, warmed in the microwave, and have it melt in your mouth). Like they were cooked hours before, and once ordered, put in the microwave to warm them up.

$16 for a dozen! Don't think the doughnuts were freshly cooked; rather just kept in a warmer.
I remember when I paid $1.99 a dozen. Seems like the doughnut was a bit firmer back then rather than the spongy texture now.
